Happy Mail!

Be Creative!

Crafting Forever, Stampin' Up!, Hand Stamped, Watercolored, Handmade Card

When I'm stumped for card ideas, it sure is handy to have that bits box available! I didn't have any idea what to do for a card today because I've been busy organizing my pantry. Well, let me back that up a bit. First I was going to clean out the refrigerator, but before I could do that, I had to move the stuff off the kitchen counters to make room for fridge stuff. But before I could do that, I had to make room for it in the pantry. Sound familiar?

We moved here two years ago, and the pantry hasn't been purged/organized since that time. Let's just say there were things that expired BEFORE we moved here that somehow got packed and moved. What was I thinking?!

I know, I was so ready to be done with moving that toward the end, in the final scramble to be out of the house before escrow closed, we were just tossing everything in boxes without sorting. Here's the post about the move, if you're interested. I was without a craft room for FIVE MONTHS, so I couldn't "do something creative every day." I tell ya, it nearly killed me!!!

So, where was I? Oh yeah, no idea for a card. I had this image that I had colored while at my friend's house for our monthly stamp-together. And laying on my desk were scraps of DSP leftover from this card. Throw them on a couple of mats, stamp the greeting (I cut the stamp apart), and voilà - instant card!

Crafting Forever

This is the other card we made in the stamp club. We CASEd this card on Pinterest, but changed the color and used ribbon instead of twine. I liked the simplicity of it! The card above is the sample I made to show the ladies.

Unfortunately, when I was demonstrating it, I had a boo-boo. You'd think, after all these years, I'd remember to look at the stamp to make sure it's inked up completely. Nope....apparently I still have to learn things the hard way!

My idea to fix it was to stamp another image, color it, and pop it up on a mat with dimensionals, like this:

My downline, Sherry, had the brilliant (or was it diabolical?) idea to just cut the pens out and pop them up like this:

Luckily, the fussy-cutting was mostly somewhat straight lines, so it wasn't too hard. Otherwise there might have been some muttered cursing, LOL! Sherry gets to come to any of my classes or clubs for free, since she is my downline - that's one of the perks of joining my stamping family!

So, which version to you like the best? The original one at the top, the "fix" with the stitched oval mat, or the popped up fussy-cut pens?

Freaky Sneaky Peeky!

Hellooooo again, stampers, and welcome to another Tour de Freaks! We are so excited this month because we are sharing sneak peeks of products coming in the new Stampin' Up! catalog which starts June 1st, wooHOO!!! There are eight of us on the hop this month, so you may have landed here from LeAnn Greff's blog, Flowerbug's Inkspot. Are you excited for the catalog after seeing her projects? I am! As usual, I had a hard time deciding what to show because I love everything! So rather than focusing on one bundle or suite, I'm giving you a little taste of several. Up first is the Daisy Delight Bundle, which includes the stamp set and a coordinating punch. I used it with the delightful Color Theory DSP stack for a CAS card.

Next is the Label Me Pretty Bundle, which is also a stamp set with a coordinating punch. I used the Marker to Stamp technique on the label, with two of the new In Colors along with Old Olive. It's so pretty against the Powder Pink Fresh Florals DSP!

For the final card, I just had to play with the Crafting Forever stamp set. This time I went with some retro colors, Lemon Lime Twist and Dapper Denim. It totally reminds me of the early 70s, because I had an A-line dress in high school that I swear was the same pattern and colors as that floral print on the first pen! It was really groovy with my white go-go boots.

My Motto!

As soon as I saw this Crafting Forever stamp set I knew I had to have it! You know what they say - crafting comes before housework in the dictionary, as it should! The dust bunnies aren't going to go anywhere, so might as well have some fun before you tackle them. Besides, it's a proven fact the crafting is good for your mental well-being! I read it on the Internet, so it must be true. *giggle*

Crafting Forever is available in both wood-mount and clear-mount options, and you know which one I chose....clear-mount! Costs less and leaves more room on the shelf for MORE STAMPS! Must. Have. ALL. The. Stamps!

So, to see a stamp set that embodies my motto was just the bees knees for me, and a "must have" item. I stamped it on watercolor paper and used an Aqua Painter to add Powder Pink, Sahara Sand, and Old Olive.

The copper wire-looking embellishment is four strands of the Copper Metallic Thread twisted together, looped behind the image and held in place with a Glue Dot.

I made this card for the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge #221, using this sketch:

Here's the "How To"
Image: Watercolor Paper 3" x 4"
Scalloped mat: Basic Black 3" x 4"
Greeting strip: Sahara Sand 1-1/4" x 3-3/4"
Mat: Basic Black 1-3/8" x 3-3/4"
Background: Fresh Florals DSP 3-3/4" x 5"
Mat: Basic Black 3-7/8" x 5-1/8"
Card base: Sahara Sand 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"

Adhere Fresh Florals DSP to Basic Black mat and the to card base.
Stamp greeting with Basic Black Archival Ink on right side of greeting strip. Adhere to Basic Black mat and then to card, leaving 5/8" of the Fresh Floral DSP showing at bottom.
Stamp image on Watercolor Paper (or Shimmery White, if desired) and add colors as mentioned above. Note: It's water coloring - you don't have to be precise and ultra detailed when adding the colors. If you look closely, I wasn't!
Die cut the image with the largest oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Die cut the mat with the largest scalloped oval in the Layering Ovals Framelits. Adhere image to mat.
Make loops of Copper Metallic Thread and adhere to card with a glue dot.
Attach image to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
