The Grad is Sick!

My poor girl had a bit of a headache on Saturday, chalking it up to the stress of commencement. Sunday she started really feeling bad, and Monday went to Urgent Care. They hooked her up to an IV (she was dehydrated), took a swab from her nose, and put a mask on her. Ten minutes later, it was confirmed....she has the 'flu! They didn't test for H1N1 (Swine flu), which just baffles me. They told her they only do that if they admit the person to the hospital. (So, there are probably many more cases than we know for sure, because they aren't testing.) After she spent a few hours there, they sent her home, telling her not to go back to work (she's a high school English teacher) for a week, and to wear her mask, even at home.

Her husband is taking very good care of her, thank God, and she's even emailed me a couple times, so I think she'll be all right. They've been joking that she has to wear the mask to hide her pig snout. :-)

So, this card was made for my poor sick baby. I think she'll find it amusing, given
the circumstance.

Graduation 2009

My 'baby' girl (who is married and teaches at a high school) got her Master's degree on Saturday. I'm so darn proud of her, and in total awe of her dedication and perseverance in setting and reaching her goals. She is SO much like unlike her mother!

I love the way Bev Rochester layers her flowers and uses spacers and charms. It was through her blog that I learned about The Hobby House, a great place to find these items. Their customer service, shipping rates and speed are all top rate.

The fabulous star filigree over the Prima flowers is from
The Hobby House, as are the Papermania pearl brads. Since I didn't want to mix metals, I used a Copic marker to color the silver metal on the brads to match the gold filigree.

I don't know if you can make it out, but the DP says "Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart". A perfect sentiment, don't you think?

Cardstock: Bazzill, Stampin' Up!, DCWV, and some unknown bits from the scrap bag
DP: Paper Pizazz from Hot off the Press
Sentiment Stamp: Inkadinkado
Ink: Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Craft, heat embossed with clear EP
Embellies: Prima flowers, Cuttlebug Argyle embossing folder, Papermania brads,
star filigree

Happy Mother's Day 2009

This is the card I made for my mom this year. I was going to wax rhapsodic about what a wonderful mother she is, but I'm getting a lump in my throat and can't see through the tears, so I won't. I miss her so much! She lives about a 10 hour drive away, so we don't get to spend as much time together as we would like. She has to take care of her husband, who has many mental health problems. *sigh*

Anywho, I used Whiff of Joy's Confirmand Melinda for the image, because I wanted to link it to the sentiment inside. I stamped her with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on SU Very Vanilla cardstock. She was colored with Copic markers, her wings painted with Shimmerz Blingz Pixie Dust, then cut with the Nestabilities Petite Oval die. The mat behind her is SU Baja Breeze (I'm lovin' that color lately!), cut with the Nesties Scalloped Petite Oval, and run through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder.

I think the textured ivory background paper (Paper Company Ivory Weave) matched the Very Vanilla really well, and the ecru lace was a nice contrast. The ribbon is SU Very Vanilla Taffeta.

I didn't have any gemstone brads that matched the colors, so I took some clear ones and colored them with a Copic Sketch BG72 Ice Ocean marker. The same marker was used to line the inside of the SU Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware and color the brads over the sentiment.

The Prima Flowers matched everything perfectly, but I needed some smaller ones for filler, so I grabbed my little flower punches (EK Success) and made my own. Some of them got colored with the Copics, too. ;-) And Sally's Pearls added just the right touch to them all.

The cover and inside sentiments were printed on my printer. The Little hearts adorning the inside were Nesties Classic Hearts and Classic Scalloped Hearts run through the Cuttlebug.

Father's Day

This card was one of the make 'n takes at last Saturday's SU card club, and it just perfectly fits for my father for Father's Day. He's retired now, and doesn't even keep track of what day of the week it is anymore. (Lucky bast guy.) LOL!

Anyway, I love, love, loved the Stampin' Up! Specialty Designer Series Paper that we used for it - so much so, that I ordered a pack for myself. BTW, SU is having a special right now where if you order three packs of DSP, you get a fourth one free! I don't know about you, but I'm a paper addict, so I had no trouble at all picking out 4 packs. ;-D If you want to take advantage of this special, contact my demo Rosalie. She's the best!

Mother's Day

I'm baaa-aack. Didja miss me, LOL? It looks like my temporary, part-time job is already over (boohoo), so I should have more time for card making (woohoo!).

This card is a variation on the card I did for this month's stampin' club swap. I had thought about doing Mother's Day cards for the swap, but then I figured everyone would be making their own card for their own mom. So, for the swap I made get well cards, and then for this Mother's Day card, I added a few more details, like the pearls and some Cotton Candy Stickles.

I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, which is absolutely the BEST for using with Copic Markers. NO SMEARING!

I used Bev's card HERE, somewhat, as inspiration. I just adore her coloring, and her use of colors and color combinations are amazing!

I even carried the cover theme over to the inside of the card, ala Bev, using some of the scraps.
