Control Freaks ask "What's Up, Dude?"

As you can probably tell from the post title, this month's theme on the Tour de Freaks is anything masculine. There are seven of us on the tour, with Kelly's blog being the first stop. I'm next, and you can just click the links to take the whole tour!

I don't know about you, but I always struggle a bit with masculine cards. When I think "guy" cards, I always think of trees (and texture - lots and lots of texture), and we have THREE wonderful tree-related stamp sets that coordinate together beautifully (one is coming next month in the Holiday catalog), so I made three cards using them!

Up first is good old Lovely As A Tree. It's been a real workhorse for the past fifteen years for Stampin' Up! The texture is from a new Dynamic embossing folder called.... wait for it.... Corrugated! Coming soon to a Holiday catalog near you!

Up next is the awesome Rooted In Nature, which came out with the new annual catalog in June. The texture is from the Seaside embossing folder.

And last, but certainly not least, is my new favorite stamp set, Winter Woods. The texture is from the Woodland embossing folder, and I cheated a little with a retired wooden button from my extensive, curated hoard collection of embellishments.

That's all I have to share today, so pop on over to Debbie's blog to see what she has for you!

Blended Seasons

Heart's Delight Cards, Blended Seasons, Friendship, Just Because, Stampin' Up!

Just a quick reminder that there are only twelve more days to order this limited-time bundle. And only six more days to take advantage of my offer for the free Watercolor Pencil Assortment 2 when you purchase one of the bundles. Once it's gone, that's it.....it won't be coming back in a catalog later.

I had fun playing with the leaves from the stamp set, and made a CAS card with them. The leaves were stamped with StāzOn on Shimmery White and then colored with the Cajun Craze watercolor pencil. I didn't color the whole leaf, just about halfway up from the base. Then I used an Aqua Painter to blend the color and pull it out toward the point of the leaf.

I really like how this card has a somewhat Asian feel. After I finished it, I wanted to see how it would look if it was stepped-up a bit. On the second card, I heat embossed the leaves in Copper embossing powder, and then colored them with Bright Copper Shimmer Paint. Trust me, the sheen is so beautiful; the photo just doesn't do it justice!

A second copper mat was added behind the black mat, and two copper swirls were cut from the Stitched Seasons Framelits. Helpful Hint: To get a reverse image of the swirl, cut one from the back side of the copper. Then, using a bone folder, carefully smooth it out on a hard, flat surface (like a new Big Shot cutting pad).

Dashing Deer Sneak Peek

Heart's Delight Cards, Dashing Deer, Christmas Card, Stampin' Up!

I happened to have some swatches of the awesome new Frosted Floral Specialty DSP sitting on my desk (along with a ton of other crap things) and a piece of Copper Foil Sheet was sitting nearby (along with a ton of other crap things). Okay, so my craft table is a complete disaster area. Creativity gets messy sometimes!

Anyhoooo, I noticed how pretty the copper looked next to the Blackberry Bliss pattern, and thought that a copper deer would be nice with a non-traditional holiday color. After cutting the deer and the gorgeous filigree corner piece (there are TWO of those corners in the die set), I got the notion to try embossing them with the Subtle Dynamic embossing folder.

Heart's Delight Cards, Dashing Deer, Christmas Card, Stampin' Up!

Holy wow, what a difference that made!!! It is a really cool effect, but if you try it, be aware that it makes the die cut kind of curl under a bit, so handle it carefully. I tried adding a Blackberry Bliss twine bow to the deer's neck, but it didn't look right; just too rustic for this rather elegant cervid. Copper sequins were much more in keeping with his stateliness. *smile*

Rooted In Nature Christmas

Heart's Delight Cards, Rooted in Nature, Christmas Card, Stitched Seasons Framelits, Stampin' Up

The evergreen trees in the Rooted In Nature stamp set kind of remind me of a Christmas tree farm. Ahhh, I do miss going to the tree farm and getting a fresh tree every year. There is nothing like a fresh pine in the living room, twinkling with little lights and bedecked with shiny baubles. And the scent! *sigh*

Sadly, since Pumpkin found us by the bridge when he was a kitten we haven't had a real tree. Waaay too many temptations hanging there, and I'm afraid the little brat darling might end up like the cat in Christmas Vacation. So, I'll just have to make paper simulations to get my Christmas tree fix.

Heart's Delight Cards, Rooted in Nature, Christmas Card, Stitched Seasons Framelits, Stampin' Up

This card uses the Silver Foil-Edged Cards found on page 11 of the holiday catalog (that starts in 2-1/2 weeks). There are matching foil-edged envelopes, and there are gold ones, too! Don't have a Holiday catalog? Let me know and I'll send one to you!
