Control Freaks ask "What's Up, Dude?"

As you can probably tell from the post title, this month's theme on the Tour de Freaks is anything masculine. There are seven of us on the tour, with Kelly's blog being the first stop. I'm next, and you can just click the links to take the whole tour!

I don't know about you, but I always struggle a bit with masculine cards. When I think "guy" cards, I always think of trees (and texture - lots and lots of texture), and we have THREE wonderful tree-related stamp sets that coordinate together beautifully (one is coming next month in the Holiday catalog), so I made three cards using them!

Up first is good old Lovely As A Tree. It's been a real workhorse for the past fifteen years for Stampin' Up! The texture is from a new Dynamic embossing folder called.... wait for it.... Corrugated! Coming soon to a Holiday catalog near you!

Heart's Delight Cards, Lovely As A Tree, Masculine Card, Stampin' Up!
STAMPS: Lovely As A Tree, Itty Bitty Greetings  CARDSTOCK: Whisper White, Soft Suede, Basic Black, Crumb Cake  INK: Soft Suede, Jet Black StazOn  ACCESSORIES: Braided Linen Trim, Corrugated and Subtle Dynamic TIEF

Up next is the awesome Rooted In Nature, which came out with the new annual catalog in June. The texture is from the Seaside embossing folder.

STAMPS: Rooted In Nature, Itty Bitty Greetings  CARDSTOCK: Whisper White, Soft Suede, Basic Black  INK: Soft Suede, Jet Black StazOn  ACCESSORIES: 5/8" Burlap Ribbon, Seaside TIEF, Subtle Dynamic TIEF

And last, but certainly not least, is my new favorite stamp set, Winter Woods. The texture is from the Woodland embossing folder, and I cheated a little with a retired wooden button from my extensive, curated hoard collection of embellishments.

That's all I have to share today, so pop on over to Debbie's blog to see what she has for you!

Rooted In Nature Christmas

Heart's Delight Cards, Rooted in Nature, Christmas Card, Stitched Seasons Framelits, Stampin' Up

The evergreen trees in the Rooted In Nature stamp set kind of remind me of a Christmas tree farm. Ahhh, I do miss going to the tree farm and getting a fresh tree every year. There is nothing like a fresh pine in the living room, twinkling with little lights and bedecked with shiny baubles. And the scent! *sigh*

Sadly, since Pumpkin found us by the bridge when he was a kitten we haven't had a real tree. Waaay too many temptations hanging there, and I'm afraid the little brat darling might end up like the cat in Christmas Vacation. So, I'll just have to make paper simulations to get my Christmas tree fix.

Heart's Delight Cards, Rooted in Nature, Christmas Card, Stitched Seasons Framelits, Stampin' Up

This card uses the Silver Foil-Edged Cards found on page 11 of the holiday catalog (that starts in 2-1/2 weeks). There are matching foil-edged envelopes, and there are gold ones, too! Don't have a Holiday catalog? Let me know and I'll send one to you!

Suite Designs from My Inky Friends

https://myinkyfriends.blogspot.com/2018/07/suite-designs-blog-hop-2018.html

My Inky Friends have a bit of a different twist to our hop this time - instead of choosing just a stamp set and/or matching dies, we are featuring entire suites! That means DSP, embellishments, embossing folders, and any other bits that are part of a suite that go along with the stamps, dies, or punches. There are ten of us this go-round, and you may have landed here from Holly's blog, where she showcased Garden Impressions. Wasn't it great?! To see the whole blog roll, click the banner above or just follow the links to see all the sweet suites!

I chose the Nature's Poem Suite because it is so versatile and has many fun elements to work with. The suite consists of the Rooted in Nature stamp set, Nature's Roots Framelits Dies, Nature's Poem DSP, Nature's Twine (4 colors in the pack!), and Leaves Trinkets. If you get the stamp set and die bundle, you can save 10% AND this month you'll get a Bonus Days coupon, too!

For my fist card, I chose the greens that are in the Nature's Poem DSP pack, Mint Macaron and Tranquil Tide. The evergreens were stamped and stamped again without re-inking to give the appearance of trees in the mist.

I thought thought the greeting was perfect - saying, in effect, to stand out in a forest of sameness. Since this suite doesn't have an embossing folder, I used the Subtle Dynamic TIEF, plus I'm giving you a sneak peek at the Corrugated Dynamic TIEF that's coming in the Holiday catalog next month! WOOT, I do love me some texture!!!

My next card uses some of the DSP, as well as one of the Leaves Trinkets. I love how the metal element plays off the earthy burlap ribbon.

The tree was inked in Soft Suede then stamped off once to lighten it. I just wanted it as a background for the greeting, not the main focal point like this card. The image panel was matted on Copper Foil to coordinate with the copper leaf element.

There you have it - the awesome Nature's Poem Suite, which can be found on pages 142-144 of the 2018 annual catalog! Now hop on over to see what Tanya has for you. She's featuring Tranquil Textures, and I KNOW she's going to rock it (and make me want to buy it)!

Stamp Review Crew - Rooted in Nature

https://stampreviewcrew.blogspot.com/2018/08/rooted-in-nature.html

Welcome to the Rooted in Nature edition of the Stamp Review Crew! The super talented Heidi was the first stop, and I'm number two. There are sixteen of us this time, and we're welcoming a new Crew member, Mary Haugen. What is the Stamp Review Crew? We are a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world who hope to inspire you by picking one stamp set (or bundle) and showing many ways to use it!

As soon as I saw the Rooted in Nature bundle, which is available in wood or clear mount, I knew I had to have it! I love trees and leaves - they're so....nature-y! And this tree reminds me of the huge old ash tree we had to cut down last year because it succumbed to the emerald ash borer. That tree was probably 150 years old, I'm guessing, and I was so sad to see it go.

Anyhoo, one of the things I really liked about the Nature's Roots Framelits are the dies that just make impressions in the cardstock. They kind of remind me of fossils, and I used them on Watercolor Paper here because it's nice and thick, and leaves a deep impression. (Heh heh, see what I did there?)

Did you notice the copper spatters? I made my own shimmer spray with the Bright Copper Shimmer Paint that will be in the Holiday catalog starting next month! It's easy to do - just fill a Stampin' Spritzer about 3/4 full of rubbing alcohol, then add the shimmer paint and shake well. Instead of spritzing, I took the sprayer with the attached tube out and tapped it to make spatters.

After inking up the tree with Early espresso, I used a sponge dauber to pick up a little of the shimmer paint and dabbed it around the edges the stamp before stamping on Very Vanilla. Look at what a beautiful sheen it has! (You can click the photo to zoom in.)

No card is compete without decorating the envelope in some way, right? Instead of stamping the tree image on the envelope, I thought I'd make the flap match the impressed card background. Nothing like a little taste of what is to come!

Well, that's my project for today. Up next is the always awesome Bronwyn Eastley!
