Santa's Sleigh, 12 Cards in Half a Day (Tutorial)

This was another of my favorite swaps received at OnStage. I know, I know, I had a lot of favorites....what can I say? Stampin' Up! demos ROCK! I liked this one so much, I asked Sandy if she'd mind me posting it with a tutorial. She very graciously gave the go-ahead, so I figured out how to make it and turned it into a tutorial for making six cards like hers, which uses the negative of the die, plus six cards using the cut out part. Here's the other card:

These cards can easily be made in an afternoon. I was able to figure out Sandy's card, design the second card, stamp/cut and assemble them all in less than four hours. You should be able to do it way quicker, since I figured out the measurements for ya!

Here's the "How To"
You will need:
 2 sheets Whisper White cardstock
 3 sheets Garden Green cardstock
3 sheets Warmth & Cheer DSP
 4 sheets Emerald Envy cardstock
1 full sheet Presents & Pinecones DSP
2 strips coordinating Presents & Pinecones DSP, cut 1-1/2" wide
 1 piece Gold Glimmer Paper 1" x 4"
Garden Green and Emerald Envy ink pads
 Mint Macaron marker
Santa's Sleigh Bundle (stamps & coordinating dies)
Star of Light stamp set (for greeting)
 Bunch of Banners Framelits
 Big Shot
 Magnetic Base Plate
 Pretty Paisleys embossing folder
 Adhesive

Start by cutting all your cardstock and DSP to have it ready for assembly, as follows:
  1. Whisper White - cut both sheets in half crosswise (as you would for card bases). Set aside one half-sheet for stamping the greetings. The remainder should be cut down to six pieces 4" x 5-1/4".
  2. Garden Green - cut the three sheets in half crosswise, then score and fold the six pieces for your card bases.
  3. Warmth & Cheer DSP - for all three sheets trim 2" off one side (this will be leftovers). Rotate the remaining 4" x 6" and cut into halves to make six 3" x 4" pieces.
  4. Set aside the paper you've cut so far for the first card.
  5. Emerald Envy - cut ONE sheet in half lengthwise (4-1/4" x 11"). Then cut six strips 2-1/2" x 4-1/4". (You will have some left over.) Cut and score the remaining three Emerald Envy sheets as you did with the Garden Green in Step 3.
  6. Full sheet of Presents & Pinecones DSP - cut into three 4" wide strips, and then into six pieces 4" x 5-1/4". (You will have some left over.)
  7. Cut the remaining two 1-1/2" wide DSP strips into six pieces measuring 1-1/2" x 4".
Now on to Stamping and die-cutting!
  1. On the half sheet of Whisper White, stamp greeting six times in Emerald Envy and six times in Garden Green, making sure they are fairly evenly spaced. Cut them apart, leaving enough space around each greeting for the banner die to fit.
  2. On the six remaining Whisper White pieces, stamp the tree from Santa's Sleigh in Emerald Envy ink, centering it with the bottom of the trunk about 5/8" from bottom of cardstock.
  3. On the Magnetic Base Plate, place the stamped tree, Garden Green greeting, and gold glimmer paper. Line up the dies. You may need to shift them a bit so they are over a magnet. Run through the Big Shot. Set trees aside with the second card components.
  4. Emboss negative cut cardstock with embossing folder.
  5. Add adhesive to the long edges of the Warmth & Cheer DSP (I used Tear & Tape. You can use SNAIL, or liquid glue.) Adhere to back of tree opening, then attach both to Garden Green card base.
  6. Attach star at top with glue and use dimensionals to attach greeting.
Now for the second card!
  1. Adhere smallest DSP strip to largest DSP, having bottom of strip about 1" from bottom. Adhere both to Emerald Envy card base.
  2. Adhere Cherry Cobbler DSP to Emerald Envy mat, and then both to card base, about 3/8" from left and bottom edges. (I know the wrong side of the DSP is in the picture. Trust me, the other side is Cherry Cobbler!)
  3. Color trees with Mint Macaron marker. Adhere tree to mat with a stripe of liquid glue down the length on back.
  4. Die cut the Emerald Envy greetings and gold glimmer stars (do 'em together to save time).
  5. Glue star to top, and attach greeting with dimensionals.
  6. Stamp stars along right side with Emerald Envy ink.

Wonderful Year OnStage Swap

This was one of my favorites from the swaps at OnStage. I love the copper embossing with Mint Macaron; so simple, yet so elegant!

And since this is one of the (*ahem* few) stamp sets I DON'T have, it's nice to have a sample to show my stamping ladies. I had to email Anna to ask how she did the tree. I kind of figured it was a negative from a die cut, but the coloring is so smooth and even, I needed to know how she did it. Did she spritz it? Use the sponge brayer? Turns out she sponged some of her swaps and used a sponge dauber on others. I think the Shimmery White cardstock probably helps make the color go on evenly. I'm definitely going to try it. Thanks for the help, Anna!

Here's the "How To"
Tree: Scrap of cardstock at least 3" x 4" to die-cut tree
Star: Scrap of Copper Foil Sheet 3/4" x 3/4"
 Image: Shimmery White 3-3/4" x 5"
Card base: Mint Macaron 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored and folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Die-cut medium tree from Perfect Pines Framelits Dies in cardstock scrap and use negative to sponge tree shape in Mint Macaron ink onto Shimmery White cardstock.
  2. Rub Embossing buddy over and stamp greeting with VersaMark ink, then cover with copper embossing powder. Tap off excess and heat with heat tool until melted.
  3. Adhere to card base. Die cut star in Copper Foil and adhere with glue dot. Add strips of Washi Tape.

Vertical Greetings, Two Ways

These are more samples from the OnStage swaps I received. I love how the cards can look so different, even with the same stamp, depending on the colors and supplies used!

The swap above was made by Beth Daniels but, unfortunately, the maker of the lovely one below didn't put her name on it; I wish I knew who to credit! I love how she dry embossed all but the last inch, leaving a blank space for the greeting. So clever!

Here's the "How To" (first card)
 Image: Whisper White 1-3/4" x 5-1/2"
 First mat: Sweet Sugarplum 2-18" x 5-1/2"
 Second mat: Garden Green 2-1/2" x 5-1/2"
Pot: Scrap of Whisper White 1-1/4" x 1-1/4"
Card base: Whisper White 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored and folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp tree in Garden Green on Whisper White image strip. Adhere to both mats and then to card base. Stamp greeting in Garden Green.
  2. Stamp plant pot in Sweet Sugarplum and cut out with paper snips. (Straight sides, easy peasy!) Adhere over green pot with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  3. Make a bow with Thick Baker's Twine and adhere with glue dot. Add enamel heart embellishment.
