Using that Retiring DSP!

I admit it, I'm a paper junkie. I've never met a paper I didn't like, and I tend to hoard collect it in mass quantities. Case in point - this beautiful Pop of Pink Specialty DSP. I absolutely adore the black and white with the pop of Melon Mambo in the designs. It's retiring in a month, and right now it's deeply discounted at 40% off, while supplies last. I. Must. Resist. Temptation! I really want to, but really shouldn't. As it is, I'm going to have to purge some things to make room for the new DSP that's coming. And honestly, that's the only reason I'm not jumping all over that bargain!

There were some extra daisies in the box of bits, so I pulled them out and put this card together. I'm glad to be using more of my DSP stash, since I'm making room for Fresh Florals DSP, and Delightful Daisy DSP, and Color Theory DSP, among others. Did that pique your curiosity?

Hello Sunshine

I resisted the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits for as long as I could, honest I did! But resistance was futile, and I finally weakened and ordered them. (The Borg were right.) I've just seen so many cute and beautiful cards that use them and besides, one can never have too many dies, right? Gotta keep Mr. Big happy!

When my son was a little boy, I called him Sonshine. That was several decades ago, but he will always be my little boy. I made this card to send to him, for no particular reason other than to say "Hi" and I miss him. I hope it gives him a smile when he opens it.

I love the combination of black and white with a pop of color (red, yellow, or turquoise are great examples), so the sunburst design in the Cupcakes & Carousels DSP stack worked perfectly for this card. The black chevron pattern is in the Pop of Pink DSP pack. I have a hard time using chevron patterns, because looking at them makes my eyes feel wonky. But in small doses, like on this card, it can be tolerable.

Happy Birthday Tag

Quick post today! This was the other card for the demo swap. The That's the Tag bundle jumped out at me when I first saw it because of the sweet little flower and leaves combo.....and it had a DIE to match!!! I was sold. (Hello, my name is Cindy and I'm addicted to Stampin' Up!)

I used the leafy die-cut tag upside down on purpose. The hole lined up with the plain tag hole, and I thought it looked like a leafy arbor, or something. Anyhoo, some Calypso Coral was sponged on the Very Vanilla satin ribbon, so I could make it the color I wanted. It really looks a lot prettier in person!

Happy Birthday, Cupcake

I finally had a chance to play with the Sweet Cupcake bundle and, oh my, it's a lot of fun! It's three-step stamping and the photopolymer stamps make it easy to line things up. (I have plans for using the icing "squiggle" that comes in the coordinating Cupcake Cutouts Framelits dies on some Christmas cards, but I'll share that another day....let's just say the Holiday catalog is full of sweet surprises!)

The background was done with the watercolor "smoosh" technique. You take an acrylic block, tap the ink colors you want to use on it (Pool Party, and Bermuda Bay used here), then lightly spritz it with water and smoosh it onto your watercolor paper. While it's still wet you can move the ink around if you want. I blew some of the drops around, then used the Heat Tool on low to dry it. It's really a fun technique, and no two will look alike. Makes for fabulous one-of-a-kind cards!

Here's the "How To"
Watercolor Paper 3" x 4-1/4"
Bermuda Bay 1-3/8" x 5-1/4"
DSP 4" x 5-1/4" (I used retired It's My Party; you can sub any Mint Macaron DSP)
Whisper White scrap for stamping cupcake and frosting
Card base Whisper White Thick 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored and folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp #1 frosting with Watermelon Wonder. Stamp #2 frosting with Flirty Flamingo. Stamp #3 frosting with Flirty Flamingo, stamped off once. Die cut and set aside.
  2. Stamp #1 cupcake with Watermelon Wonder, #2 with Peekaboo Peach, and #3 with Daffodil Delight. Die cut and set aside.
  3. Tap Pool Party and Bermuda Bay ink pads on acrylic block, mist lightly with water-filled spritzer and press onto watercolor paper. Set aside to dry, or use Heat Tool to speed things along. Stamp greeting at top.
  4. Adhere Bermuda Bay strip to DSP, and watercolor paper on top. Wrap gold ribbon around; fastening ends to back. Tie a bow and attach with Glue Dot.
  5. Adhere DSP to card base. Make several loops of gold thread and attach with Glue Dot.
  6. Use Stampin' Dimensionals to Attach cupcake and frosting, and add some shimmer to the frosting with Clear Wink of Stella.
