National Ice Cream Day

Boy, somehow I missed the memo that today is National Ice Cream Day! Apparently it falls on the third Sunday in July. As soon as I realized it, I had to make a card to celebrate, before heading to the store so we could celebrate the occasion properly, LOL.

I like all kinds of regular ice cream, with Pistachio and Amaretto Cherry Cordial being my favorites. Well, except for the best ice cream EVER which was homemade peach ice cream my daddy made once when I was a teenager. Holy moly - I took a bite and the angels sang!

My hubby, on the other hand, likes soft swirl but there are too many unpronounceable ingredients in it for me. Blech! Give me the real stuff; cream, milk, eggs, and sugar (preferably cane sugar).

So, if you had to choose soft swirl, would you choose chocolate or vanilla? And if vanilla, do you prefer it dipped in chocolate?

Here's the "How To"
Cones: Scraps of Crumb Cake and Whisper White
 Oval: Whisper White 2-1/4" x 3-1/4"
 Background: Coffee Break DSP 4" x 4"
Card base: Whisper White Thick 4-1/4" x 11" scored and folded at 5-1/2"
  1. Adhere DSP to card base leaving even borders at top and sides. Adhere Tranquil Tide Washi Tape at bottom of DSP.
  2. Stamp greeting using Tranquil Tide directly onto card base.
  3. Stamp chocolate ice cream using Chocolate Chip ink for the solid image and Early Espresso ink for the swirls. For the vanilla ice cream, just stamp the swirls in Sahara Sand ink, and the sprinkles in Chocolate Chip. Cut both ice creams out with coordinating Frozen Treats Framelits die.
  4. For the cones, press cone die onto Crumb Cake ink pad and place carefully on Crumb Cake cardstock before running it through the Big Shot. This gives a nice letterpress effect!
  5. Die cut the Whisper White with the second largest oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits.
  6. Adhere oval to card base with dimensionals.
  7. Attach ice cream swirls to the cones with liquid glue, then glue together slightly overlapped. Adhere to oval with dimensionals.

Cool Birthday Treats

I haven't played much with the Cool Treats stamp set, yet, so I thought today would be a good day. Now mind you, it's not because the weather calls for a cool treat....far from it. It's been frikkin' COLD this past week! I'm about ready for warmer Spring weather, how about you?

I just like the way the Celebrations Duo embossing folders are a great way to add some WOW to a card, and the Cool Treats set works so well with it. Because the greeting is debossed (indented rather than raised), it's perfect for over-stamping with balloons like this card, or the popsicles, as done here. It may take a couple tries to get the right amount of pressure for a good image, without getting too much in the indented parts. I saw a tip about leaving it in the embossing folder while stamping, but I haven't tried it, yet. I just touch up the ink spots with this extra-fine point white Sharpie.

Some Clear Wink of Stella was added to give those frozen treats a frosty look. I'm sure something cold and frosty will be a lot more appealing in a few months, but for now I'll just admire the ink ones.

My idea of the perfect cold, frosty treat (right, Sherry?)......

Here's the "How To"
 Greeting banner: Watermelon Wonder 1/4" x 3"
 Image panel: Whisper White 2-1/2" x 5-1/8"
 Mat Watermelon Wonder 2-5/8" x 5-1/8"
DSP: Tasty Treats Designer DSP 3-7/8" x 5-1/8"
 Mat: Watermelon Wonder 4" x 5-1/4"
 Card base: Whisper White 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Adhere DSP to mat and then to card base.
  2. Emboss "Celebrate" in Whisper White, and stamp treats (ink colors listed below). Note: the Watermelon Wonder treat was stamped off once.
  3. Add Wink of Stella to treats, then adhere to mat, and attach to card base using dimensionals.
  4. Rub embossing buddy over greeting strip. Stamp greeting (from Big on Birthdays) using VersaMark ink. Cover with embossing powder, tap off excess, and heat with heat tool.
  5. Attach to card with dimensionals (cut in half).

Cool Treats, 2017 Occasions Sneak Peek

I know I said I would show a make and take from the Falling In Love Suite, but I just couldn't resist playing with the Cool Treats stamp set we received at OnStage, and this turned out so CUTE that I had to share! Besides, you can see the make and take on Pinterest here, so there's no point in me posting it. I want to show something NEW!

The Cool Treats set is 36 photopolymer stamps and there is a coordinating 17 piece set of Framelits called Frozen Treats. I just fussy-cut the ice cream, fudge, and cone since I don't have the dies (yet). If you look closely, you'll see the ice cream shimmers with clear Wink of Stella, and the fudge has some shine from the Fine-Tip Glue Pen. And if you are really observant, you'll notice the Very Vanilla 1/4" Satin Ribbon that will be in the new catalog, too!

I love how the new Stitched Shapes Framelits fit perfectly with the Layering Ovals Framelits. Makes it so easy for adding layers and dimension!

I know it's not very fair showing you things that won't be available until January 4th, so I'll try to keep it to a minimum, at least for this month. We still need to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas first, right?
