Happy Fall from the Control Freaks!

Yep, FALL is the theme this month and we are starting to see some Fall colors here in East Tennessee. It is so beautiful; definitely my favorite time of year! If you started at the beginning, you just arrived from Kelly Acheson's blog, A Stamp Above. But if you started with me, no worries! Just click the "Next" button at the bottom of the page to go on to the next stop.

When I think of Fall, I think of chilly breezes swirling colorful leaves (hooray for sweater weather!), stacking firewood to prepare for cold winter nights, hot cocoa, spiced cider, harvests & pumpkins. It's right up there with raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens as a few of my favorite things, so I decided to make a couple of cards featuring some of these things!

Heart's Delight Cards, Colorful Seasons, Fall, Autumn, Stampin' Up!

First up is the card with the colorful swirling leaves. I did a watercolor wash with Brusho Crystal Colors then cut the large and small leaves from Seasonal Layers. The small leaves were glued to the background and "pressed" with the Subtle folder to embed them into the cardstock. Then it was embossed again with the Seaside folder to give the impression of wind-blown leaves.

After all the work, it occurred to me I could have gotten the same look by using the Baby Wipe Technique with the small leaf stamp in Colorful Seasons, which is what I did on the envelope flap. Sheesh. The light's on folks, but nobody's home.

For the next card, I went with a CAS look. I just adore the sunflowers and pumpkins in the At Home With You stamp set and, of course, it involves coloring! And, like Colorful Seasons, it has coordinating dies so I didn't have to fussy cut anything.

Heart's Delight Cards, At Home With You, Fall, Autumn, Stampin' Up!

I started by figuring where the greeting (Country Home) needed to be stamped on the background, then embossed it with the Subtle folder. A 1-1/2" strip of Pear Pizzazz DSP was added to the bottom, with a narrow strip of Copper Glimmer Paper (Joyous Noel Glimmer pack). After coloring and die cutting the image, it was popped up on dimensionals.

Instead of stamping the envelope flap, a 2-1/4" x 6" piece of DSP was glued to the flap and the excess trimmed off. I love how coordinated it all looks!

That's all for my "Ode to Autumn." Thank you for stopping by! Up next is Julie Davison over at Julie's Stamping Spot. I'm sure she will have you falling for Fall, too!

My Inky Friends Challenge #10 - Color!

https://myinkyfriends.blogspot.com/2018/09/my-inky-friends-design-challenge-10.html

This month's challenge from My Inky Friends is a fun color challenge, and with the changes in the air around here, I immediately thought of Autumn! Naturally, Colorful Seasons came to mind so I got out the Daffodil, Poppy, and Granny Apple Stampin' Blends, as well as the Poppy Parade and Granny Apple Green ink pads and went to work.

Heart's Delight Cards, MIFDC10, Colorful Seasons, Stampin' Up!

The background is a Granny Apple Green watercolor wash. When it was dry, the greeting was stamped with StazOn and then it was embossed with the Subtle folder. After adhering a Granny Apple Green mat, it was attached to the card base.

The leaves were stamped with Poppy Parade ink, then colored with the three Blends' colors and die cut with the coordinating die. I colored a piece of Linen Thread with the Light Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends marker to layer on top of the Burlap Ribbon for a little added interest.

Snowy Colorful Seasons (& Some SWEET Deals!)

Colorful Seasons, Snow, Snowflakes, Christmas, Stampin' Up!

Holy cow, Stampin' Up! is really making October the month for sweet deals! Not only are they having their annual Designer Series Paper sale for the entire month, but they are also celebrating Word Cardmaking Day with a sale on select stamp sets that coordinate with the DSP that's on sale. The Very Vanilla and Whisper White note card/envelope packs are on sale, too, and if you buy the Fast Fuse adhesive, you get TWO refills for free! The WCMD sale is only from October 1st - 10th, though, not the entire month like the DSP.

Colorful Seasons, Snow, Snowflakes, Christmas, Stampin' Up!

Today's card features one of the snowflakes from the Colorful Seasons stamp set, embossed in clear on the card base. The snowflake die die cuts are cut from the matching Color Theory DSP stack that is part of the sale.

Colorful Seasons, Snow, Snowflakes, Christmas, Stampin' Up!

Colorful Seasons doesn't have a Christmas/Winter greeting so, since snowflakes were the theme, I went with the Merry Little Labels stamp set. It just seemed appropriate.

Colorful Seasons & Barnwood

Besides the spectacular views, one of the things that attracted us to this house, when we were looking online at properties, was the beautiful barnwood wall in the living room. I'm sure this house has a great story to tell, if only the walls could talk! We know that the wood was taken from an old barn down by the river, although we're not sure where. I do know the oak plank walls in my craft room were from an old oak tree that used to stand right next to the house.

Since we had to have the dead ash tree cut down, I'm hoping to use some part of it to preserve its memory with the homestead, too. Though I haven't figured out just how, yet.

So, the beautiful barnwood walls, as seen in the photo above, were my inspiration for today's card. Some Shimmery White cardstock was embossed with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder, then I dragged Soft Suede, Smoky Slate, and Basic Gray ink pads lightly over it to give it that weathered look.

The Hearth & Home Framelits die window frame was cut from Whisper White Thick cardstock, and the cat was punched in Basic Black. Yeah, I know, it doesn't look like my Punkin at all, but I was fresh out of orange tabby cardstock, LOL.
