Gate-fold Birthday

Sunday I showed Mom how to do the Magic Colored Pencil technique using our Prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits (also known as the Gamsol Technique). I stamped some floral images for her to practice on, and while she was coloring and blending, I colored some flowers, too. It was a happy, creative day with my mommy!

These flowers were just begging to be used on a card, and I couldn't refuse! After choosing the linen-looking background paper, I found I already had a matching gate-fold blank in my Sahara Sand cardstock pack, so *BOOM* this fancy card nearly completed itself!

For those of you who like the look of fussy-cutting but don't like the work, this is a fun alternative. Use your Stampin' Trimmer to carefully cut up to - but not through - the image, letting some look like it's hanging off the edge. Then you only have a small bit to fussy cut and it still looks kewl!

Birthday Blooms in Red

The peony blossom in Birthday Blooms is such a fun image to color! There are many coloring mediums that work well with it, but today I chose Copic Sketch markers. The alcohol ink blends easily which makes shading easy, and the colors are just so vivid. I really wanted the image to pop, and the birthday girl's favorite color is red, so that's today's color choice.

If you are going to color with alcohol ink, be sure to stamp your image using a water-based ink, such as the Memento Tuxedo Black used here. If you use Basic Black Archival, or StazOn Jet Black, the ink will smear when you color over it.

These are the Copic colors used (I forgot to grab the Y35 Maize used for the stamen):

Here's the "How To"
 Image: Whisper White 2-7/8" x 3-3/4"
 Mat: Real Red 3" x 3-7/8"
Glimmer mat: Gold Glimmer Paper 3-1/4" x 4-1/8"
 Greeting: Whisper White 1-1/2" x 3-1/2"
DSP: Real Red from Brights Collection (retired) 4" x 5-1/4"
Card base: Whisper White Thick 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored and folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp peony on Whisper White and color with your choice of coloring medium. Adhere to Real Red mat and then to glimmer paper mat. Note: Use a sticky tape such as Tear & Tape adhesive when fastening anything to Glimmer paper.
  2. Attach DSP to card base, and doily to right side of DSP. (Retired Tea Lace Doily used here.)
  3. Adhere matted image to card base, leaving an equal border of DSP showing at top, left, and bottom.
  4. Stamp banner and greeting using Basic Black Archival ink and die cut with Bunch of Banners Framelits. Attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Birthday Banners

Here is one of the cards that was sent to Shannon for her to send out. I got to use up more retired DSP, but at the rate I'm going, I'll need to live for about 180 more years to use it all up. And that's assuming I don't buy any more.
(HA! Like that will ever happen!!!)

This is me when the big brown truck comes down the driveway:
