Accented Blooms, Part II

This is the other card with a totally different twist that I was talking about! I had stamped the image on a scrap of Shimmery White that had been used for a die cut, and was just playing around, experimenting with coloring the negative space with a Pool Party Light Stampin' Blends to see what it would look like. (I wanted some of the flowers to be white, but they didn't stand out on the white background.)

I liked the look, so I added some color to jazz it up, and then it looked really good! So now I was in a bit of a pickle, because the hole left by the die cut made it impossible to cut a neat rectangle so that I could use my "experiment" on a card. Hmmmm, what to do, what to do......

I didn't really want to fussy cut the whole thing, but then it occurred to me that I could cut it at an angle, following the angle of the greeting outline. Bingo! I did cut off part of the uppermost bloom, but that was easily remedied by stamping an extra and fussy cutting it to be popped up. I added the Tranquil Tide Climbing Vine embossed piece (turned so the vines weren't angled) for some texture and a few Metallic Pearls for more texture. All in all, a fun experiment that turned out well. I love it when that happens! So may end up in the trash bin, LOL.

My Inky Friends Fabulous at 30!

It's time to celebrate the new Stampin' Up! annual catalog AND 30 years of stampy goodness! Can you believe it's been thirty years that SU has been bringing awesome stamping goodies to us?! I'd have to say that they get better as each year passes, so thirty is looking pretty fabulous! And My Inky Friends agree, so we are sharing some of the fabulousness (is that a word?) with YOU!

Sara over at Lily's Ink Pad was before me. I just love her Enjoy Life projects, don't you? There are nine of us on this hop, so follow the links to see all the wonderful projects.

I was really taken with the design of the Accented Blooms stamp set and, with Memorial Day just past and Independence Day coming up, I was feeling rather patriotic, so I thought a red, white, and blue theme would be kind of cute. I really like the way it turned out! This set is available in wood-mount and clear-mount.

We don't have any "white stars on a field of blue" DSP, but the Blueberry Bushel polka-dots with the Lovely Lipstick stripes from the 2018-2020 In Colors DSP pack are certainly close enough!

I stamped off the Blueberry Bushel greeting once, so that the heat embossed B.B. cardstock piece would stand out more. The inside was dressed up with matching strips of DSP and the blooms from the front. They look like ball chrysanthemums, don't they?!

The envelope flap was covered with the striped DSP to give the recipient a little hint of what's inside. It's so easy to add that little extra! Just add some liquid glue around the edges of the envelope flap and adhere a 2-1/2" x 6" piece of DSP, making sure the top edge is even with the fold. Then trim off the excess - easy peasy!

Sneaky Peeks from the Control Freaks!

Time for a new Tour de Freaks blog hop, and this month we are sharing some awesome sneak peeks from the new 2018-2019 annual catalog, which starts in less than two weeks, woohoo!!!  Whether you got here from Debbie's blog, Debbie's Designs, or are starting here, just follow the links to take the whole tour.

Two of my many, many favorite things from the new catalog are the Accented Blooms stamps set (because, well....COLORING!), and the beautiful Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies (because, well....Mr. Big!). And these dies not only cut the most intricate butterfly or floral looking die cut, but they can be used with the Big Shot Embossing Mats to emboss instead of cut!

My first card shows the die cut layered behind the colored and fussy-cut image. It's so elegant and lacy. I just love it!

For the second card, I used the die and embossing mat and just pressed the impression into the Granny Apple Green background. This time, instead of fussy-cutting the whole image, I stamped it again and cut some of the flowers to pop up. Sure do love those Stampin' Blends markers. I can't wait for June 1st, because there will be eleven new colors available, including me new favorite green! WOOT!
