CCM Saturday Hop - Great Outdoors

Today's Create With Connie & Mary Saturday Blog Hop theme is the great outdoors. We aren't supposed to use flowers, but that's okay, we still have everything else outside to choose from! Boy, that covers a lot of territory, haha.  Since the bluebirds have been busy raising their babies in our nest boxes (so much fun to watch!) I took that inspiration and ran with it.

I started by creating a background using sponge daubers to dab colors randomly on white cardstock. I was trying to give the illusion of trees and some blooming trees peeking through the die cut tree trunks. Granny Apple Green spatters were stamped over and it was adhered to the Coastal Cabana card base. The die cut tree trunks got popped up on mini dimensionals over it.

That Perched in a Tree stamp set features this chonky little fellow, who looks like he hasn't missed a meal at our feeders. 😂 He was stamped and colored with Stampin' Blends then die cut and popped up on more dimensionals after I adhered the branch and greeting.

That's all for today - see you next Saturday! Up next is Libby Fens at Libby Stamps. Or click the "back" button to go back to Lori at Loritamarie Crafts.

MIF Design Challenge #5 - Sketch

https://myinkyfriends.blogspot.com/2018/04/my-inky-friends-design-challenge-5.html

This month's My Inky Friends Design Challenge is a sketch, inspired by the birthday card on page 85 of the 2017-2018 annual catalog. This is a fun sketch to use as a starting point, because there are so many creative possibilities! Remember it's okay to reverse a sketch or turn it sideways, so you have lots of leeway for creativity.

Heart's Delight Cards, MIFDC5, Sitting Pretty, Thank you, Bluebird, Stampin' Up!

I wanted to use a stamp set that I got to pre-preorder as a perk for attending the Stampin' Up! OnStage event earlier this month. (That's one of the many perks of being a demo!) Anyhoo, I just adore the new Sitting Pretty bundle, which has lovely detailed Framelits to go with the stamp set, so today I chose the ornate wrought iron bench.

I can just picture a cozy little nook in my garden, with cement pavers and a potted plant beside the bench. And, because it's my garden, grass growing between the pavers, LOL. At least my favorite visitor came by to chirp "Hi!" I colored him with Night of Navy Light and Calypso Coral Light Stampin' Blends. I get to see these little guys every day outside my craft room window!

That linen-look background DSP is from the new Nature's Poem pack that will be available starting June 1st. Lots of pretty paper coming soon, but don't forget the paper that is retiring, too. Some things are already sold out!

I hope you will join our sketch challenge this month. I'd love to see what you are inspired to make! The challenge ends May 11th, so you have a couple weeks to get your design uploaded and linked on the My Inky Friends blog.

Best Bird Birthday

I had this little bird left over from when I made the easel calendars and needed to make a quick birthday card for a stamping friend. My Box o' Useful Bits sure comes in handy sometimes! The So Saffron stitched circle was languishing in there, too, which made the perfect background for the little guy. All I had to do was stamp the mesh background on it, then add the branch and bird. (His eye is a medium pearl, colored with a black Sharpie.)

Her favorite color is mauve, and I think Sweet Sugarplum comes pretty close, so I used it for the card base and added some Sweet Sugarplum ribbon from the Glitter Ribbon Combo Pack. By the way, that ribbon pack is discounted 40% right now, and the Fancy Frost DSP I used for the background is 20% off. But everything is "while supplies last", so don't wait too long before deciding you need it!

Here's the "How To"
 Bird & branch: Shimmery White 3" x 4-1/4"
 Circle: So Saffron 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"
 Greeting: Whisper White 1" x 5-1/4"
 Background: Fancy Frost DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
 Card base: Sweet Sugarplum 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp bird and branch on Shimmery White cardstock with Basic Black Archival ink. Let dry thoroughly, then color using Blender Pens. Die cut with Birds & Blooms dies.
  2. Die cut So Saffron with largest Stitched Shapes circle, then stamp mesh using So Saffron ink.
  3. Stamp greeting on Whisper White strip, toward the right side.
  4. Adhere Sweet Sugarplum ribbon to Fancy Frost DSP 3/8" from bottom, wrapping ends around back. Adhere greeting strip over ribbon, leaving some showing underneath.
  5. Adhere DSP to card base, then circle to DSP (overlapping greeting strip a bit). Add branch using liquid glue. Perch the bird on the branch. I used Stampin' Dimensionals behind his head and back, and liquid glue to hold his feet to the branch.
