My Inky Friends Challenge #12 - Color!

https://myinkyfriends.blogspot.com/2018/11/my-inky-friends-design-challenge-12.html

I have to admit, when I first saw the colors in this MIF Design Challenge, I was stumped for ideas. I could see the Mango Melody, Lemon Lime Twist, and Pool Party together, but Rich Razzleberry had me scratching my head. I think the problem was, I was trying to work it into a holiday card, and it just wasn't clicking for me. Then I spotted the Butterfly Gala bundle sitting on my side table and inspiration struck - I could use preorder goodies from the Occasions catalog! To heck with the holidays!!!

Heart's Delight Cards, Butterfly Gala, Butterflies, Occasions 2019, All Occasion, Stampin' Up!

I knew there was Lemon Lime Twist in the Gingham Gala DSP pack, and I could color the Silver Metallic Edge ribbon with a Pool Party Stampin' Blends Marker. All I needed were some mango and raspberry butterflies to punch out and adhere!

The Whisper White background was stamped with (stamped off once) Pool Party butterflies to make a subtle background. After adding the gingham DSP and ribbon, a Pool Party mat was adhered to the back and the butterflies were added to the front. I think it looks nice and Spring-like on this cold snowy day!

Here are pics of the Butterfly Gala photopolymer stamp set, and the Butterfly Duet Punch, which are on page 35 of the upcoming Occasions catalog. NOTE: The catalogs will be mailed out around the middle of December, so if you want me to add you to my mailing list, let me know!

If you'd like to play along this time (and I really hope you will!), click the banner at the top of the page or follow the link below. The guidelines are simple!
1. For a sketch challenge, follow the general design of the sketch, although it can be flipped. For a color challenge, Stampin' Up! colors are listed. You can use compatible colors and add neutrals as needed.
2. Create something new that has not been posted before.
3. Post your creation on your blog or online gallery, and please provide a link back to our challenge. Provide a direct link to your project or post to the Linky on the challenge page
4. Feel free to combine up to three challenges, as long as you include a link to the Inky Friends post.
5. Most important of all - have fun!

Bee Happy!

I wanted to use the hexagon embossed piece in the bits box, and as I was going through it, I found a piece of vellum that was also embossed. I think it helped tone down all that yellow, and added some visual interest, to boot! The flower, leaves, and Stitched Shapes circle were in the box, as well, so all I had to stamp was the bee and the greeting strip.

Unfortunately, I haven't made a dent in the box.....I guess it's going to take many more cards, and possibly adding some of the less useful bits to the round file. *gasp!*

I used a SOB (Some Other Brand) glitter brush on the bee's wings. I like the CTMH gold glitter brush much better than the Gold Wink of Stella. I know we don't sell it, but I'm just giving my honest opinion here. I will always be honest with you about products I use and recommend!

No Special Reason for the Sneal Peek!

Yikes! I was so busy baking, candy making, wrapping, and designing cards for the Control Freaks swap (that have to go postal TOMORROW!), that I almost forgot to blog today. Sorry if you been checking and wondering what the heck happened. I'll yell ya what happened - LIFE! Sometimes it gets in the way of crafting, lol.

Anyhoo, I looked in my Box o' Useful Bits, and pulled out the embossed background and gold die cut flower, and went from there. Easy and elegant, if I do say so myself! And since I REALLY need to finish those swaps, I'm not doing a "How To" tonight.

I hope you are farther ahead in the game than I am, and aren't stressing about the holiday!

Lift Off! (Sneak Peek)

Every time I see hot air balloons, I'm reminded of the annual balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. What a spectacular sight! Although I have yet to actually ride in a hot air balloon, it is on my bucket list.

So anyway, I was very excited to see the balloon suites in the 2017 Occasions catalog. This card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest, by Kylie Bertucci. Of course, I had to bling it up a little with some copper foil and embossing! (So happy that the copper foil will be carried over after the Holiday catalog retires!!!)

This was one of the cards we made in today's stamp club, where the Lift Me Up bundle was the featured product. It will be available starting January 4th, and you can save 10% by buying the stamp set and dies together. The DSP used is called Carried Away, and will be a free SAB item starting in January, too.

Here's the "How To"
 Die-cut balloons: Scrap of Whisper White 2-1/2" x 4-1/4"
 Image/greeting panel: Whisper White 2-5/8" x 4-1/8"
Mats: Copper foil and Night of Navy 2-3/4" x 4-1/4"
 DSP: Carried Away (2017 SAB) 4" x 5-1/4"
Card base: Night of Navy 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp the greeting in Night of Navy on the lower right of image/greeting panel. Stamp clouds randomly along top half of panel.
  2. Stamp the two balloons on the Whisper White scrap and die cut them.
  3. Rub embossing buddy on cardstock to the left of the greeting. Clean smaller balloon stamp and stamp using VersaMark ink. Cover with embossing powder, tap off excess, and heat with heat tool until melted.
  4. Adhere DSP to card base. Adhere Night of Navy cardstock at an angle over DSP.
  5. Adhere stamped panel to copper foil. Attach to card with dimensionals. Add die cut balloons with dimensionals.
