Saying Goodbye

One of the hardest things every year is saying "So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye" (name that movie) to the retiring stamp sets. Well that, and not getting so caught up in the exciting new things that we neglect to say a proper goodbye before they are gone. So, I dragged myself away from the box that the man in brown brought yesterday and focused on one of my favorites from the Occasions catalog, the Special Reason stamp set.

You may have noticed, I'm also saying goodbye to the Pop of Pink Specialty DSP, but also yelling HELLOOOO to the Lemon Lime Twist new In Color! I couldn't resist, because it looks so fabulous with the black & white!

Now if you've followed my blog for any length of time, you know that I'm not a fan of chevron prints. I just couldn't hop on the chevron bandwagon when it came by, because it's too "busy" for my taste. However, in small doses it can be quite lovely, as seen on this card!

PRODUCT NOTES: As of this post, the Pop of Pink Specialty DSP was still available at 40% off. The Stylish Stems Framelits are sold out. The Special Reason stamp sets (clear-mount and wood-mount) are guaranteed through May 22. The Lemon Lime Twist ink & cardstock, and Glitter Enamel Dots start June 1st, but the dots have been wildly popular with the demo preorder, and are back ordered already. (See? It pays to be a demo, so you can get your mitts on the goodies first! Ask me how.)

Butterfly on Falling Flowers

I am happy to report that both the Falling Flowers stamp set and the Butterflies Thinlits are carrying over to the new catalog, yippee! The past few days I've been spending a lot of time outside getting things ready for the garden and have seen LOTS of butterflies (hooray for pollinators!), which was the inspiration for this card. We had some crazy rain last week so the garden was too mucky to do anything. Yesterday I went out to pull some weeds and see if any of the asparagus crowns that I planted are sending up shoots. I found one tiny wisp of a spear! I hope in another couple of years we will have enough to harvest.

Here's the "How To"
 Background: Sweet Sugarplum 4" x 5-1/4"
 DSP: Succulent Garden 1" x 4"
Butterfly: Succulent Garden DSP and Vellum 2-1/2" x 3-1/2"
 Card base: Sweet Sugarplum 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Cut DSP butterfly using Butterflies Thinlits and Vellum butterfly using Bold Butterfly Framelits. Adhere together with glue dots, add Pearls Basic Jewels and set aside.
  2. Stamp swirl from Falling Flowers using VersaMark ink on background cardstock so that bottom of swirl is approx. 1-1/4" from bottom edge. Highlight with gel pen, chalk marker, or extra fine point Sharpie.*
  3. Adhere DSP strip to bottom. Wrap a 5-1/2" length of ruched ribbon around and adhere ends to back, so that top of DSP is just barely covered.
  4. Stamp greeting (retired greeting used here) in Rich Razzleberry ink.
  5. For the bow, cut 2-1/2" ribbon, overlap ends 1/2" and fasten with a glue dot forming a loop. Lay it on the wrapped ribbon with the cut end centered behind the loop and tie in place with white baker's twine. Note: it helps to have an extra hand to hold it while you're tying. I like using these reverse tweezers.*
  6. Adhere background to card base with dimensionals.
  7. Adhere butterfly to card with dimensionals.

Control Freaks Mothers & Friends

It's time once again for the Tour de Freaks, and this month we are focusing on Moms, or friends, or moms of friends, or friends who are like a mom.... any of them! We have a small group today, only five of us on the tour. Did you just land here from Wendy's blog? Weren't her projects just the sweetest?! If you click the link at the bottom of each blog, you'll go full circle and end up back here.

My Mom loves succulents, so of course I had to make a card with succulents for her for Mother's Day. The Oh So Succulent stamp set and matching dies are retiring, but I just checked and they are still available *as of the time of this post*. And here's a tip: Normally, purchasing a bundle is the better bargain, but right now the stamp set and die are deeply discounted and a MUCH better deal separately! Just sayin'.

Up next is a sneak peek at the Eastern Palace Suite that will be available for customers to preorder starting May 1st. It's a great way to get an exciting little taste of what is coming in the new annual catalog!

I love the combination of Tranquil Tide with a bit of Lemon Lime Twist. The yellow green looks really good beside the blue green. Surprisingly, Mr. Big didn't have anything to do with this card. I liked the simplicity of the stamping (with a little accent from the Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers and Metallic Enamel Shapes) so much that I didn't want to use the Eastern Medallions Thinlits Dies. Shocking, I know!

Up next is Melissa Davies' blog, RubberFUNatics. You don't want to miss what she has to share!

Oh So Succulent Farewell

I was oh, so sad to see that Oh So Succulent is on the retiring list. I think I've gotten more use out of this bundle than any other bundle in recent memory. It seemed to be very popular, too, judging from all the pins on Pinterest. With the exception of the ink, everything on this card is retiring. I don't understand why..... just give me a minute......

Smiley from Millan.Net

Okay, I've pulled myself back together. Mr. Brown is bringing some goodies to me this afternoon that will help. I got to pre-preorder the Eastern Palace Suite that is going to be in the new catalog, and it will be available for anyone to preorder starting May 1st! More info on that later, because I'm off to get ready for stamp club tomorrow. Have to design three card projects for my ladies. Thanks for stopping by today!
