First Friday Fun Fold - Easel Card

Tomorrow is my birthday, so I thought an easel birthday card would be fun to make. (Plus I can add it to the "40 pile", LOL.) Today I'm using a brand new, not-yet-released bundle from the 2021 Annual Catalog! Demos get to preorder this month, AND it will be available to customers next month as an early release!!!

Here are the cast of characters used on today's card:

OOPS, I didn't use Bermuda Bay cardstock! Just ignore it.

  • Flowering Cactus photopolymer stamp set - card front greeting
  • Approaching Perfection cling stamp set - inside sentiment (SAB freebie!)
  • Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad
  • Thick Basic White and Basic Black cardstock
  • Butterfly Bijou 6" x 6" DSP
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine, Brilliant Wings Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies, Ornate Frames Dies
  • Matte Black Dots

Also needed are basics like Paper Trimmer, Stampin' Seal, Tear & Tape, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, and Stampin' Dimensionals.

  1. Score large Basic White cardstock at 4-1/4" and 6-3/8".

  2. Fold card base in half, then fold front back to form a Z.

  3. Add two strips of Tear & Tape to the flap as shown, then adhere the 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" white cardstock to the flap, forming the card front.

  4. Adhere both DSPs to their mats.

  5. Attach the front DSP/mat to the front of the card base.

  6. Do the same for the inside of the card.

  7. Decorate the card front as desired. (Flowers would be lovely! Or use the butterflies in Butterfly Gala or Butterfly Wishes. OR join my team and choose the preorder goodies in your starter kit! 😃)

  8. Stamp the inside greeting and add something popped up on dimensionals to prop the card open.

Beautiful Day, plus Tutorial

Heart's Delight Cards, Beautiful Day, Butterfly, Birthday Card, 2019-2020 Annual Catalog, Stampin' Up!, Emboss resist

Here is another birthday card using the Beautiful Day set that the Stamp Review Crew just featured. Don't like fussy cutting? No worries - use the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and cut the butterfly that way!

Heart's Delight Cards, Beautiful Day, Butterfly, Birthday Card, 2019-2020 Annual Catalog, Stampin' Up!, Emboss resist

Don't like to fussy color, or feel you don't do it well? No worries - grab a sponge dauber and apply a little color with it! No need to be precise, just rub on a little color.

FYI, I think Shimmery White cardstock yields the best results when sponging on color because it makes blending a lot easier. Handy hint: After dabbing the dauber on the ink pad, tap it on some scratch paper before starting to blend on the artwork. Then starting rubbing in small circles, very lightly, gradually applying more pressure as you go. That helps eliminate the dark ink blotches! So, here are the steps I use:
  • Tap several times on ink pad to pick up color
  • Tap on scratch paper to get rid of excess ink
  • Start gently rubbing on image in small circles, starting where you want the most color, and working outward
  • Repeat!

Cardstock Cuts

Card base: Very Vanilla 5-1/2" X 8-1/2" scored and folded at 4-1/4"
Background: Petal Pink 4" x 5-1/4" embossed with Subtle 3D embossing folder
  Image: Shimmer White 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"
  Greeting: Scrap of Very Vanilla

Instructions
  1. Rub Embossing Buddy over Shimmery White cardstock, then use VersaMark ink to stamp the butterfly. Cover with gold embossing powder, tap off excess, then heat with Heat Tool until melted.
  2. Using the steps outlined above, apply Petal Pink ink to the butterfly. Cut out with largest scalloped rectangle in Stitched So Sweetly Dies.
  3. Emboss Petal Pink cardstock with the Subtle 3D folder, then adhere the butterfly panel to it.
  4. Wrap Petal Pink Metallic Edge Ribbon around, adhering ends of ribbon to back, then adhere entire panel to card base.
  5. Stamp greeting in Soft Suede ink on a Very Vanilla scrap. Cut out and adhere to card with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.
  6. Add Petal Pink Basic Adhesive-backed Sequins.

My "Help"

You have no idea what a challenge it can be to be creative when your feline assistant refuses to budge. Oh wait.....if you have a cat, then maybe you do. My feline overlord can be very insistent when he wants attention.

Heart's Delight Cards, Beautiful Day, Butterfly, Stampin' Up!, Occasions 2018,

The butterfly kept calling me from the Beautiful Day stamp box, so I had to do another card just to make it be quiet! You can't see it in the photo, but there was a little color sponged on the DSP behind the doily so it would stand out. It probably could have used a bit more color. *smile*

Heart's Delight Cards, Beautiful Day, Butterfly, Stampin' Up!, Occasions 2018,

The Rose Gold dots on the Springtime Foils Specialty DSP is just so lovely! That is part of the SAB Second Release that starts this Friday. Simply gorgeous, and I'm going to be sorry when it's no longer available.

Heart's Delight Cards, Beautiful Day, Butterfly, Stampin' Up!, Occasions 2018,

The butterfly was heat embossed on watercolor paper then colored with Berry Burst and an Aqua Painter. After fussy cutting, it was popped up on a double layer of dimensionals, really making it stand out.
