Butterfly on Falling Flowers

I am happy to report that both the Falling Flowers stamp set and the Butterflies Thinlits are carrying over to the new catalog, yippee! The past few days I've been spending a lot of time outside getting things ready for the garden and have seen LOTS of butterflies (hooray for pollinators!), which was the inspiration for this card. We had some crazy rain last week so the garden was too mucky to do anything. Yesterday I went out to pull some weeds and see if any of the asparagus crowns that I planted are sending up shoots. I found one tiny wisp of a spear! I hope in another couple of years we will have enough to harvest.

Here's the "How To"
 Background: Sweet Sugarplum 4" x 5-1/4"
 DSP: Succulent Garden 1" x 4"
Butterfly: Succulent Garden DSP and Vellum 2-1/2" x 3-1/2"
 Card base: Sweet Sugarplum 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Cut DSP butterfly using Butterflies Thinlits and Vellum butterfly using Bold Butterfly Framelits. Adhere together with glue dots, add Pearls Basic Jewels and set aside.
  2. Stamp swirl from Falling Flowers using VersaMark ink on background cardstock so that bottom of swirl is approx. 1-1/4" from bottom edge. Highlight with gel pen, chalk marker, or extra fine point Sharpie.*
  3. Adhere DSP strip to bottom. Wrap a 5-1/2" length of ruched ribbon around and adhere ends to back, so that top of DSP is just barely covered.
  4. Stamp greeting (retired greeting used here) in Rich Razzleberry ink.
  5. For the bow, cut 2-1/2" ribbon, overlap ends 1/2" and fasten with a glue dot forming a loop. Lay it on the wrapped ribbon with the cut end centered behind the loop and tie in place with white baker's twine. Note: it helps to have an extra hand to hold it while you're tying. I like using these reverse tweezers.*
  6. Adhere background to card base with dimensionals.
  7. Adhere butterfly to card with dimensionals.

Butterfly Birthday

It's still too early for the butterflies and bees to make an appearance, so I'm just going to have to make my own until they do! Mr. Big got a little workout today, not only with the die cuts, but the butterfly embossing as well. Honestly, I don't know if I could make cards if I didn't have a Big Shot!

The Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper is just that - dazzling! The photo above just doesn't do it justice, so I laid it in a shaft of sunlight to give you an idea. Still not as dazzling as real life, but you can get an idea. It's so purty!

Here's the "How To"
 Butterfly: Blooms & Bliss DSP 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper 2-1/2" x 3-1/2"
 DSP background: Blooms & Bliss 3" x 3-1/2"
 Greeting: Whisper White 1/2" x 3-1/2"
 Embossed background: Whisper White 4-1/8" x 5-3/8"
 Card base: Rich Razzleberry 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Die cut butterfly DSP using Bold Butterfly Framelits die. Die cut Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper using coordinating Butterflies Thinlits. Adhere together using liquid glue just on the butterfly body. Note: The Precision Base Plate ensures a clean cut through glimmer paper, but be sure to run it through twice to make sure!
  2. Emboss background with the Fluttering embossing folder. Adhere to card base.
  3. Stamp greeting on Whisper White strip, leaving room on the right for staples. Cut banner end on left side.
  4. Cut 4" of Blushing Bride and Sweet Sugarplum ribbons and trim left ends at an angle. Cut 8" of Silver ribbon, fold in half and cut ends at an angle.
  5. Stack the ribbons as shown, with greeting on top, and staple to right side of DSP near the bottom. Adhere DSP to card base.
  6. Adhere butterfly with dimensionals.

Have I Mentioned I Love Butterflies?

Yeah? Well then, it should come as no surprise that I'm having way too much fun with the Butterfly Bundle!

Smiley from Millan.Net

I've been seeing the layered and/or inlaid butterflies all over, so I thought I'd give it a try. It was really not hard at all! After I die cut the butterfly, I used the "negative" from the Basic Black piece to trace the butterfly on the Bermuda Bay. It was fussy cut just inside the lines, leaving off the swallow tail bits. That produced the back layer. The body of the butterfly was glued to the background, leaving the wings free.

Then a 2" x 2" piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper was placed under the butterfly die where I wanted pieces for the inlay. Those were just glued with multipurpose glue on the Bermuda Bay background, fitting them into the appropriate holes of the butterfly's wing. It really is a "Wow" effect in real life!

The green growth was stamped on the lovely Soft Sky sheet from the Painted Blooms DSP pack using Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive.
