Saying Goodbye

One of the hardest things every year is saying "So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye" (name that movie) to the retiring stamp sets. Well that, and not getting so caught up in the exciting new things that we neglect to say a proper goodbye before they are gone. So, I dragged myself away from the box that the man in brown brought yesterday and focused on one of my favorites from the Occasions catalog, the Special Reason stamp set.

You may have noticed, I'm also saying goodbye to the Pop of Pink Specialty DSP, but also yelling HELLOOOO to the Lemon Lime Twist new In Color! I couldn't resist, because it looks so fabulous with the black & white!

Now if you've followed my blog for any length of time, you know that I'm not a fan of chevron prints. I just couldn't hop on the chevron bandwagon when it came by, because it's too "busy" for my taste. However, in small doses it can be quite lovely, as seen on this card!

PRODUCT NOTES: As of this post, the Pop of Pink Specialty DSP was still available at 40% off. The Stylish Stems Framelits are sold out. The Special Reason stamp sets (clear-mount and wood-mount) are guaranteed through May 22. The Lemon Lime Twist ink & cardstock, and Glitter Enamel Dots start June 1st, but the dots have been wildly popular with the demo preorder, and are back ordered already. (See? It pays to be a demo, so you can get your mitts on the goodies first! Ask me how.)

So in Love with Delicate Details

The clock is ticking loudly now on the countdown to the end of Sale-A-Bration 2017! There are only FOUR days left and I can't believe how quickly SAB went by.....well actually yeah, I can, because everything seems to be moving at breakneck speed these days. We are already near the end of the first quarter of the year, and I haven't even started my Christmas cards yet!

I combined some SAB stamps with some "useful bits" for this card. The Delicate Details lace stamps were lined up on a large block to make repeat stamping easy. I like the subtle look of VersaMark ink on colored cardstock, don't you?

From the bits box I pulled the leaves from Special Reason already stamped and cut, as well as the flower from So in Love, already colored and fussy-cut. I have no idea what I had planned for them, but they work together nicely here, I think! The greeting is from Tasty Trucks, another SAB item that is ending soon.

Bee Happy!

I wanted to use the hexagon embossed piece in the bits box, and as I was going through it, I found a piece of vellum that was also embossed. I think it helped tone down all that yellow, and added some visual interest, to boot! The flower, leaves, and Stitched Shapes circle were in the box, as well, so all I had to stamp was the bee and the greeting strip.

Unfortunately, I haven't made a dent in the box.....I guess it's going to take many more cards, and possibly adding some of the less useful bits to the round file. *gasp!*

I used a SOB (Some Other Brand) glitter brush on the bee's wings. I like the CTMH gold glitter brush much better than the Gold Wink of Stella. I know we don't sell it, but I'm just giving my honest opinion here. I will always be honest with you about products I use and recommend!

You Are Amazing

This was one of the cards I made for a swap with some Stampin' Up! demo friends. I love getting happy mail back when we swap. It's like Christmas every time I open the envelope! We swap two designs, and I had one done, but was stumped for the second. Well, I could put "works better under pressure" on my résumé, because when a deadline is looming, I get all kinds of creative! And so, this card was the result.

I haven't used the Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate (pg. 175 AC) much, despite my big plans to use it for holiday cards, which came to nada. Maybe next year. (Oh wait, that's THIS year! haha) It really pops against the black background, and the gold heat embossing and acetate work perfectly with the bit of Crushed Curry on the card base.

Here's the "How To"
 Flowers: Whisper White 2-3/4" x 4-1/4"
 Leaves: Pear Pizzazz 1-1/2" x 3"
 Acetate: Fabulous Foil 2" x 5-3/8"
 Embossed background: Basic Black 4-1/8" x 5-3/8"
 Card base: Crushed Curry 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Rub Embossing Buddy over Basic Black cardstock and stamp greeting on lower right with VersaMark ink. Cover with gold embossing powder, tap off excess, and heat until melted. Hint: I use a tiny paint brush to brush off the bits of embossing powder that are stuck where I don't want them.

  2. Attach acetate using three glue dots, leaving about 1/8" margin on left. (You can see where they are place in the photo below.) Adhere all to card base.

  3. Ink the small and large flowers with Daffodil Delight ink, and use a sponge dauber to lightly tap Calypso Coral ink around the tips of the petals on the stamp. Stamp on Whisper White. (If you look closely, you can see the darker ink on the very tips.) After stamping, use the edge of the dauber to add ink to the center of the blossom.

  4. Ink large leaf with Old Olive ink and stamp (x 2) on Pear Pizzazz cardstock. Die cut both flowers and a leaf in first pass through Big Shot, then die cut second leaf. (Yes, I know my cutting plates are well-loved, LOL!)

  5. Using a glue dot under each, attach both leaves and the small flower to the acetate. Use dimensionals to attach the large flower.
So, if you've read all the way to here, I just want to say that you are amazing! Yes, you.....I'm talking to you; quit looking over your shoulder!
