My Inky Friends Design Challenge #18

https://myinkyfriends.blogspot.com/2019/05/my-inky-friends-design-challenge-18.html

The Inky Friends have a sketch challenge today based on the card on page 48 of the Occasions catalog (which is ending in just a few days)! It's a simple sketch, and lends itself to a wide variety of design possibilities.

I hadn't had a chance to ink up Let It Ride which, coincidentally, was used on the card in the catalog. I thought now would be a great time!

Since I don't have the Pocket die, and don't plan to get it, the new Stitched Nested Labels made a perfectly acceptable substitute! They even include a straight piece that I used to finish the top of the "pocket." They will be available starting June 4th.

I had to make a mask from a sticky note so the trees would be behind the horses, not on top. Helpful hint: Stamp your image on the cardstock and then again immediately on the sticky note. Cut just inside the black outline, as seen below. This helps the over-stamped image get right up to the edge of the first image without leaving a gap in between.

The horse images were stamped with Memento and colored with Stampin' Blends, but the trees were colored marker-to-stamp using Early Espresso and Shaded Spruce Stampin' Write Markers. I left the mask in place while I sponged some Daffodil Delight to brighten the horizon.

The Stamp Review Crew - Lilypad Lake

https://stampreviewcrew.blogspot.com/2019/05/ll.html

Welcome to the third Monday of the month... and the Stamp Review Crew's Lilypad Lake review. The "Crew" is made up of a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world who pick a stamp set or bundle to highlight on the first and third Mondays of each month, with a bonus hop if there is a fifth Monday. Today we are featuring the ten piece red rubber Lilypad Lake stamp set. It is available this month in Wood Mount or Clear Mount, and will return next month as Cling Mount only. The coordinating eight piece Lakeside Framelits dies will also be returning in the new die style simply called Lakeside Dies.

If you landed here from Heidi's blog, RunningwScissors Stamper (awesome stuff!), she is number 4 of a total of seven participants this time. Follow the links to see all the ideas for this fun bundle!

I have two cards to share today. The first one is a sympathy card, and I colored the bird image like a Blue Heron. The feet were cut off to make it look like it is wading in shallow water. The water and shoreline were colored with Stampin' Blends, and the clouds were sponged with the new In Color Seaside Spray.

The wavy line die was used on the Coastal Cabana background to add some texture. I didn't think any embellishments were needed after it was assembled.

The second card is very CAS, letting the popped up sailboats and textures carry the card. The water and sailboats were colored with Stampin' Blends, as was the sun (after stamping in Mango Melody).

The Coastal Cabana strip was sponged with Bermuda Bay, then embossed with the retiring Seaside embossing folder. And the background was embossed with the Subtle folder which, thankfully, IS carrying over! It's like the Frank's Hot Sauce ad - I use that sh*t thing on everything!

Again, no embellishments needed, and since I didn't want to detract from the simple front with a greeting, it can be used for any occasion.

Thanks for stopping by today! Next in line is Stesha, over at Stampin' Hoot. I just love her style!

Control Freaks Say Goodbye to Old Friends

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye - The Control Freaks Tour de Freaks theme this month is "Goodbye to Old Friends" which could be retiring items from the catalog, or a friend's retirement, or even someone who is moving away; it will be fun to see what each Freak decided to do! If you hopped here from Debbie's page, Debbie's Designs, welcome! If you are starting here (howdy!), follow the link at the bottom for the next stop on the tour and to see the other six blogs.

Today I am showing three retiring stamps sets, two retiring In Colors, two retiring embossing folders, one retiring die set and a partridge in a pear tree! Not really on the partridge, but I couldn't resist....

Smiley from Millan.Net

My first card features two stamp sets, the lovely Southern Serenade (using two of the stamps), and the oh-so-useful Timeless Textures (three stamps). The grid from Timeless Textures was heat embossed in gold, then the scrolly fleur de lis and spatters were stamped in Powder Pink.

Heart's Delight Cards, Southern Serenade, Timeless Textures, Stampin' Up!

After stamping the floral stem in Memento ink and coloring the flowers with Powder Pink and a Blender Pen, the leaves were colored using light and dark Mossy Meadow Blends. The image was then die cut with the new Stitched Nested labels and the edges colored with the edge of a Powder Pink Stampin' Write marker.

A greeting from Southern Serenade and a scattering of white Basic Adhesive-Backed Sequins completed the card.

The second card features the Dear Doily stamp and die bundle that I am soooo bummed is retiring. Words can't express how sad I was when I saw it didn't make the cut for the new catalog. Ahhhhh, well, I'll survive....I think.

Heart's Delight Cards, Dear Doily, Stampin' Up!

The flowers on the sprig were colored and stamped two times with Berry Burst and Garden Green Stampin' Write Markers, then stamped two more times, not re-inking the stamp. It gives a lovely softer look, don't you agree? After die cutting them with the Doily Builder Thinlits, they were arranged and glued in place. Two bows were cut from Berry Burst cardstock and after removing the ends of one, it was glued behind the other for a double loop bow.

Heart's Delight Cards, Dear Doily, Stampin' Up!

The background was embossed with both the Hexagons and Softly Falling folders and a strip of Berry Burst Silver Edged Ribbon covered the seam where they come together. I love all the different textures and layers on this card!
