You're the Best, Avant-Garden!

Well actually second best, but it tied in with the greeting on the card. Why second best, you ask? (Well, maybe you didn't, but I'm going to tell you anyway.) Remember when I said Hey Chick is the number one redeemed SAB item, so far? Well, Avant-Garden is the number two item! I'm not surprised, as it's a lovely little stamp set, and I've been seeing all kinds of beautiful things on Pinterest that use it.

Today's card was made specifically for two challenges. The first is the SUO Challenge #168, Sale-A-Bration Fun (using something from SAB), and the second is the Paper Craft Crew Challenge #231, which is a sketch challenge.

I really love the way this turned out! It's such fun for me when I'm making something, and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere - just not "right" - and then all of a sudden an idea hits that pulls it all together. That's what happened with this card.

I had everything but the greeting and card base figured out, but a white strip for the greeting just wasn't cutting it. I switched to Pear Pizzazz, which I had used on the swirl, and that looked better, so I went with Pear Pizzazz for the card base, too. But what really made it all come together was cutting down the background to 3-3/4" x 5", so more of the card base showed!

Hey, Chick! PPC223

Here's a fun card for Paper Craft Crew's challenge #223. I think the Hey, Chick stamp set in the upcoming SAB brochure is the bees knees, and just had to use this hen that was hanging out in my Box o' Useful Bits. I didn't need her for a previous project, but she's perfect for this one! Doesn't that linen thread look kind of like straw? I can just picture the "girls" scratching around in it!

Did you notice the chicken wire background? (Click on it to zoom in.) No, it isn't a new stamp.....it's the awesome Hexagons Dynamic T.I.E.F. coming in the Occasions catalog!  I inked up one side with Smoky Slate by tapping the pad lightly on the front of the folder (the side that says Stampin' Up!). Then I laid the cardstock on it, and held it in place while I gently rubbed all over it to pick up the ink. Voila - chicken wire!!!

This is the sketch challenge this week:

Here's the "How To"
 Chicken: Shimmery White 3" x 3"
Greeting: Scrap of Shimmery White 1/2" x 2"
Scalloped mat: *cut from center of R.R. mat*
 "Chicken wire": Whisper White 3-1/4" x 5-1/8"
 DSP: Neutrals DSP Stack 3-7/8" x 5-1/8"
 Mat*: Real Red 4" x 5-1/4"
 Card base: Crumb Cake 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp chicken on shimmery white, color, and die cut with second largest circle in Stitched Shapes Framelits. Stamp greeting on strip and cut banner ends.
  2. Die cut center of Real Red mat with third largest scalloped circle Framelit. (Hole will be covered.) Adhere chicken to scalloped mat.
  3. Stamp chicken wire pattern as described above on Whisper White.
  4. Adhere chicken wire to DSP. Wrap twine around and tie a bow, then adhere to Real Red mat and attach all to card base.
  5. Cut several lengths of Linen Thread and tie in the middle. Attach to card with glue dot.
  6. Fasten chicken to card with dimensionals and greeting underneath with dimensionals.

Lift Me Up Sneak Peek

Since I'm coming up on the big birthday month soon, I thought I'd better get stocked up! This is the other card we made yesterday using the Lift Me Up bundle. Night of Navy was certainly the featured color yesterday with that bundle! I had thought about using Real Red for a patriotic looking card, but somehow the Watermelon Wonder seemed like a more interesting match. What do you think?

Here's the "How To"
Small balloon: Scrap of Whisper White
 Image/greeting panel: 3-3/4" x 5"
 Mat: Night of Navy 3-7/8" x 5-1/8"
 Mat: Watermelon Wonder 4-1/8" x 5-3/8"
Card base: Whisper White Thick 5-1/2" X 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp small balloon and die cut with the Up & Away Thinlits die.
  2. Die cut largest Up & Away balloon from center of Night of Navy mat. (Don't worry - hole will be covered!)
  3. Die cut corresponding balloon pieces from center of Watermelon Wonder mat.
  4. Stamp greeting, clouds, and one small balloon on Whisper White cardstock. Adhere to Night of Navy mat. (See? Hole covered!)
  5. Adhere both to Watermelon Wonder mat. (Voila - other holes covered!)
  6. Adhere all to card base.
  7. Glue balloon pieces to back of balloon making sure seams are covered by front of balloon.
  8. Adhere both balloons to card with dimensionals.

Lift Off! (Sneak Peek)

Every time I see hot air balloons, I'm reminded of the annual balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. What a spectacular sight! Although I have yet to actually ride in a hot air balloon, it is on my bucket list.

So anyway, I was very excited to see the balloon suites in the 2017 Occasions catalog. This card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest, by Kylie Bertucci. Of course, I had to bling it up a little with some copper foil and embossing! (So happy that the copper foil will be carried over after the Holiday catalog retires!!!)

This was one of the cards we made in today's stamp club, where the Lift Me Up bundle was the featured product. It will be available starting January 4th, and you can save 10% by buying the stamp set and dies together. The DSP used is called Carried Away, and will be a free SAB item starting in January, too.

Here's the "How To"
 Die-cut balloons: Scrap of Whisper White 2-1/2" x 4-1/4"
 Image/greeting panel: Whisper White 2-5/8" x 4-1/8"
Mats: Copper foil and Night of Navy 2-3/4" x 4-1/4"
 DSP: Carried Away (2017 SAB) 4" x 5-1/4"
Card base: Night of Navy 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stamp the greeting in Night of Navy on the lower right of image/greeting panel. Stamp clouds randomly along top half of panel.
  2. Stamp the two balloons on the Whisper White scrap and die cut them.
  3. Rub embossing buddy on cardstock to the left of the greeting. Clean smaller balloon stamp and stamp using VersaMark ink. Cover with embossing powder, tap off excess, and heat with heat tool until melted.
  4. Adhere DSP to card base. Adhere Night of Navy cardstock at an angle over DSP.
  5. Adhere stamped panel to copper foil. Attach to card with dimensionals. Add die cut balloons with dimensionals.
