12 Day of Christmas in July!

Are you thinking about Christmas yet? I know today is Independence Day, but it also marks the beginning of my 12 Days of Christmas in July!!! Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in July I will post a Christmas-themed project with instructions and a supply list to make it easy for you to duplicate. I'm going to assume you have a die cut & emboss machine and various adhesives, so I'm not going to list them. *smile*

The Jul-Dec mini catalog just started, along with our second Sale-a-Bration of the year and SAB runs through the end of August, so you have time to get your holiday card supplies AND earn freebies, too!

Without further ado, here is our first project, a card using the Snowman Magic bundle found on page 44 of the J-D catalog. (Reside in the USA and don't have a catalog? Contact me and I'll send you one!) Note: If you order the Snowman Magic bundle and a pack of the Glimmer Specialty Paper, you'd qualify for one of the "Free w/ $50 purchase" items in the SAB brochure.

Measurements

  • Card base: Basic White 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  • Inner embossed panel: Basic White 4" x 5-1/4"
  • Die cut trees: Glimmer Specialty Paper (Evening Evergreen 2" x 3" and Gold 1" x 3")

Instructions

  1. Using the snowflake frame die, cut the front of the card base so the frame border is even at top and sides. The bottom border should be slightly larger to accommodate the greeting. Stamp greeting in Evening Evergreen ink. (I forgot to take a photo of that step.)

  2. Emboss the inner panel using the hills in the Charming Landscapes embossing folders.

  3. Die cut two Evening Evergreen trees and one Gold tree from the glimmer paper and adhere to embossed panel with liquid glue.

  4. Adhere panel to inside of snowflake frame with liquid glue and add white adhesive-backed sequins.

Folded Star Revisited, Snowflake Ornament/Gift Tag!

Here's the "how to" for the folded star/snowflake! It's really simple, and for today's sample I scaled it down to be used as an ornament or gift tag.

Measurements for last Saturday's star card are in linked below. For today's ornament the measurements are 5-1/8" x 6", with the scorelines at 2-5/8" and 3-1/2".

Oh So Succulent Birthday Tutorial

As promised yesterday, here is the other card using the other side of the DSP used yesterday. Same general look, yet totally different!

Using Stampin' Dimensionals under some of the succulents really gives it a 3D look! Even with a double layer of dimensionals, it's still within the 1/4" limit for regular mail.

Here's the "How To"
 Succulents: Whisper White 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"
 Oval: Sweet Sugarplum 2-1/4" x 3-1/4"
 DSP: Succulent Garden (2X) 4" x 5-1/4" (coordinating designs)
 Strip: Sweet Sugarplum 3/8" x 5-1/2"
 Card base: Sweet Sugarplum 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Stack both sheets of DSP and place them in your Stampin' Trimmer as shown, with the lower left corner on the 2" line and the upper left corner on the 1-1/4" line. Make the cut firmly and quickly, holding paper with your free hand so it doesn't shift.

  2. Apply a line of adhesive down the back of the Sweet Sugarplum strip. Adhere DSP, butting edges together as shown. Make sure the DSP is face-down on the strip!

  3. Turn over and trim ends of strip even with edges of DSP. Adhere ribbon, wrapping ends to back. Note: I use 1/8" Scor-Tape along the entire length of narrow ribbons. It helps them stay straight!

  4. Stamp greeting in Basic Black and adhere DSP to card base. Note: When using photopolymer stamps, using a Stampin' Pierce Mat underneath helps ensure a good image. A mouse pad can also be used.

  5. Stamp succulents using colors in the DSP (Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, Mint Macaron, and Sweet Sugarplum used here). I stamp the outline first, then ink the filler image and stamp off once to lighten the color a bit.

  6. Die cut the remaining Sweet Sugarplum cardstock using the second largest oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Die cut succulents.

  7. Adhere oval to card base with dimensionals. Adhere background succulents with liquid glue and top succulents with dimensionals. Tie a bow and adhere with a glue dot. Add rhinestones at top of oval.

Twice as Big on Birthdays!

The Big on Birthdays stamp set makes it so easy to whip up a quickie birthday card. I don't know why I didn't jump on the "big greeting" bandwagon until very recently, but I am all over them now!

Today's post shows two very different looks, using the same stamp and card sketch, but different colors and papers. The card above would make a great masculine birthday card. The Hardwood stamp was used for the background (stamped in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake cardstock), along with a bit of linen-look DSP from the Serene Scenery DSP Stack. The greeting was heat embossed with copper embossing powder, and a bit of Cucumber Crush Striped Ribbon added a touch of color along with the Mint Macaron faux die-cut bow.

The card in the tutorial goes for a more modern feminine look with black, gold, and Melon Mambo.

Here's the How To:
 Greeting: Whisper White 2-5/8" x 2-7/8"
 Mat: Basic Black 2-3/4" x 3"
 Bow: Gold Foil 2" x 2"
DSP background: Pop of Pink Specialty DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
 Coordinating DSP Strip: 1-3/4" x 4"
Ribbon: Melon Mambo 1/8" Stitched Ribbon 5-1/2"
 Card base: Basic Black 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"

  1. Adhere DSP Strip to DSP background 1" from bottom. Handy Hint: The Grid Paper is a very useful tool for this!

  2. Wrap ribbon around DSP strip 3/8" from bottom of strip, and adhere ends to back. Then adhere all to card base.

  3. Die cut gold foil using bow in Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits.

  4. Stamp greeting in black on white cardstock and adhere to black mat. Adhere die-cut bow behind.

  5. Add dimensionals to back and adhere to card base.
