CCM Saturday Blog Hop - Giving Thanks

Today's Create With Connie & Mary Saturday Blog Hop theme is Thanksgiving and gratitude. Although I count my blessings year-round, this is the time of year I really appreciate my many blessings. A roof over my head, family and friends nearby, good health, and a new puppy that's a sweetheart of a handful.... *wink*

I wanted to keep it fairly simple today, so I chose the Love of Leaves stamp set and Stitched Leaves dies. A quarter sheet of Very Vanilla cardstock was embossed with the Timeworn Type folder, then die cut with a Stitched Rectangle die and the Stitched Leaves outline die.

I heat embossed (gold) the large leaf on another piece of Very Vanilla and trimmed it down to fit behind the die cut layer. The top layer was adhered with dimensionals to the heat embossed layer and then glued to the Soft Suede card base.

I'm so sad to see that the Heartfelt Wishes greeting set is going to retire! I love its large scripty font; it really makes a statement. The greeting was stamped on Very Vanilla with Soft Suede ink, matted on some more Soft Suede cardstock and popped up on dimensionals. (I'm happy to see the Brushed Metallic Dots are carrying over!)

Twelve Days of Christmas TAGS, Day 5

Today's tag is a combination of snowflake embossing folders and snowflake dies. I just can't seem to get enough of them! Maybe if we had a really, truly snowy winter, I'd change my mind, but I doubt it! I just love snowflakes (the good kind, not the ones that get offended over the least little thing) and snowmen!

The bottom layer is embossed with the Winter Wonder folder from Stampin' Up! and the greeting from Snowflake Sentiments (naturally!) is heat embossed in silver. The next layer is a strip of Silver Foil Sheet, and the top embossed layer was done with the Darice Snowflake Swirl embossing folder.

Since one can never have too many shiny snowflakes, I added Dazzling Diamonds and Silver Glimmer die cuts on top. They really were spectacular in real life! These were the dies used.

The top of the tag was cut with the Lots of Labels Framelits and punched with a 1/8" Circle Punch.

Add a Little Glitz with Snowflakes! (Sneak Peek)

Well, you KNOW I just HAD to get every snowflake-related item in the new Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog, didn't you? If it sparkles, or if it's shiny, or if it's snowflakes or snowmen, you can bet it will end up in my craft room!

And ESPECIALLY if it's snowy-somethings that can be used with Mr. Big! So the Winter Wonder embossing folder was a no-brainer, as was the snowflake die in the Trim Your Stocking Thinlits Dies. And they happened to coordinate beautifully with the snowflakes in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, too!

You just really can't go wrong with snowflakes, and the silver sparkly ones paired beautifully with the greeting in Add a Little Glitz!

Here is a helpful hint for the Winter Wonder embossing folder: I was having trouble with wrinkles in the regular Whisper White cardstock after running it through the Big Shot. I tried a quarter sheet of Whisper White Thick cardstock and lightly spritzed the back of it with water, then blotted it with a paper towel. While it was still damp, I embossed it, and then let it dry before trimming it down for the card front. It worked perfectly; no wrinkles at all!

Carols of Christmas Sneak Peek

Programming note! Because many of the Control Freaks earned the incentive trip to Thailand and were gone this past week, the Tour de Freaks has been moved to July 29th. See you then!

Here is another little sneak peek at the Carols of Christmas stamp set (wood or clear-mount), which will be available either alone, or with the coordinating dies starting next month. Stampin' Up! will be offering them as an Early Release, so you can get it a whole month before the holiday catalog comes out!

Have you started your holiday cards yet? No? Well, don't feel bad, I haven't either! That is something I hope to remedy starting with this card. It's easy to duplicate and produce in multiples, so I think this might be one of the cards I send this year.

The background is very subtly heat embossed with clear snowflakes on white from the Colorful Seasons bundle. The greeting is from Carols of Christmas, also heat embossed in white on Night of Navy.

You know how I love snowflakes, so the snowflake dies in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits were the perfect addition for a dimensional effect!

Here's the "How To"
Snowflakes: Whisper White scraps
Greeting: Night of Navy 3" x 3-7/8"
Background: Whisper White 3-7/8" x 5-1/8"
Card base: Whisper White Thick 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"

Rub Embossing buddy all over background and greeting panels. Using VersaMark ink, stamp snowflakes randomly on background. Cover with clear embossing powder, tap off excess and heat with heat tool until shiny.
Using VersaMark in, stamp greeting on navy cardstock so greeting is a little toward the right (leaving room for snowflake). Cover with white embossing powder, tap off excess and heat with heat tool. Adhere to background approximately 5/8" from bottom.
Wrap ribbon around top and bottom of navy panel and adhere ends to back. Adhere backgound to card base.
Die cut the two snowflakes. Attach smaller flake with liquid glue. Attach larger flake with liquid glue only on parts that cover the greeting panel and ribbon, leaving top half free.
Add rhinestones.
