Rooted in Nature Sneak Peek

Heart's Delight Cards, Rooted in Nature, Stampin' Up!, Any Occasion Card, Trees, Watercolor,

Here's another fun card using the Rooted in Nature bundle that's coming soon. I inked the tree stamp with Mossy Meadow ink and lightly spritzed it with water before stamping on the watercolor paper. After inking/spritzing/stamping a second time, I borrowed the mountains and sun in the Waterfront stamp set to build the scene - inking/spritzing/stamping each time.

It looked kind of bare, so I thought a light wash to represent an ocean or bay would make it look better. It really added just the right "something" that the scene needed! There won't be any greeting added, so I can use this card for just about anything!

I absolutely LOVE how the leaf embossing Framelits look like leaf fossils when embossed on the watercolor paper. Isn't that the coolest?! It looks like trilobites or dinosaur bones should be mixed in there, too!

Remember, this bundle will be available starting June 1st. It's going to be wonderful for all kinds of occasions!

Kindness Makes a Difference

Truth. Every act of kindness, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant, really does make a difference. This one is going to Shannon West, who started the whole #imbringingbirthdaysback movement. With this card of appreciation, I'm sending her a couple dozen birthday cards (with postage-applied envelopes) to help her out with the monumental task she has undertaken. I think, at last count, she had committed to sending over 1,600 birthday cards. Holy carp!

I know there were some recipients whose only acknowledgement of their birthday came from Shannon. That right there is what I mean by making a difference. You just never know who may be struggling with some personal things, and a card, whether it's birthday, thinking of you, you're awesome, or whatever, will bring them a moment of sunshine. It only costs 47 cents, plus your time to whip up a card. If we sent TEN cards a month, that still costs less than one fancy coffee at Starbucks. Think about it.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. It's just a subject that is very near and dear to my heart!

This card went together really quickly! Another box of preorder goodies came yesterday, and in it was the Pretty Paisleys embossing folder. It's the perfect size for pairing with the Layering Ovals Framelits. A couple of quick stamps from Thoughtful Branches, a few oval die cuts, and bada-bing you're finished! If you're thinking about getting Thoughtful Branches, don't wait too long - it's a limited release bundle only good until the end of this month.

Today's post makes 14/14. I kept my promise!

Here's the "How To"
 Image panel: Very Vanilla 2-3/4" x 3-3/4"
 Mat: Gold Glimmer Paper 3" x 4"
 Embossed background: Very Vanilla 4-1/8" x 5-3/8"
Greeting: Scrap of Very Vanilla 1-1/2" x 2-1/2"
Card base: Very Vanilla 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored and folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Die cut Gold Glimmer with largest oval Framelit, and smallest Very Vanilla piece with second largest oval.
  2. Stamp greeting in Soft Suede and die cut with second smallest oval.
  3. Lightly sponge Soft Suede around edges of both vanilla ovals, then stamp tree trunks (mask bottom so trunks are a bit shorter) with Soft Suede on larger vanilla oval. Stamp tree leaves in Old Olive. Stamp grass in Pear Pizzazz.
  4. Emboss Very Vanilla background with Pretty Paisleys embossing folder and lightly sponge edges as before.
  5. Adhere embossed background to card base.
  6. Adhere tree image to gold oval with Tear & Tape or Fast Fuse. (You need extra tackiness to hold to the glimmer paper. Glue Dots work, too.) Then fasten in center of embossed oval.
  7. Adhere greeting with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Thoughtful Branches Thanks

This was made for my new stamping friend, Sherry, who has introduced me to other stamping fanatics enthusiasts in my area. It's so wonderful to get together with like-minded people for good, inky fun! Since I forgot to take measurements before I sent it off, I don't have a "How To" for you today. But I do remember the ingredients!

Reminder - the Thoughtful Branches stamp set and the Beautiful Branches Thinlits Dies (not shown) are only available until the end of this month, or while supplies last. So, if you've been seeing lots of cool pins on Pinterest using this bundle, don't wait to get it and risk missing out on it! (And end up paying way too much for it on eBay later.)

Christmas in March

This is the card we'll be making in the Christmas Club tomorrow.  It features Jennifer Timko's method of bow-tying, and I hope my club members enjoy it!  Jennifer and I even made a short video tutorial while she was visiting. You can see it HERE. My bows still need some work, but they're looking better, now that she showed me how! (BTW, this was tied with a square knot - you'll know what I mean when you see the video.)

This card by Mercedes Weber was the inspiration (thanks, Mercedes!), and I only made minor modifications to it. I wanted to make it an A2 size, and I like the kind of aged look of Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip together. Other than that, it's pretty much a direct CASE.

Stamps: Plant Hope, Petite Pairs
Cardstock: Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip
Ink: VersaMark, Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake
Accessories: Big Shot, Northern Flurry embossing folder, Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, White Stampin' Emboss Powder, Crumb Cake 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon, Rhinestones Basic Jewels, Stampin' Sponges, Stampin' Dimensionals
