Oh So Succulent Birthday

My mom LOVES succulents, so I can't wait to make her Mother's Day card using the Oh So Succulent bundle! Meanwhile, I'm getting in some practice with this birthday card. I had such a hard time deciding which sides of the Succulent Garden DSP to use, that I ended up using the opposite sides on another card. I went with the Old Olive and Tip Top Taupe sides for today's card. Tomorrow's card will show the other side of the paper used, as well as a step-by-step photo tutorial, so stay tuned!

Here is what the two sides look like:

When the succulents were stamped, the outline was stamped first, then the center was inked up and stamped off once to lighten the color. After die-cutting, the larger one was stamped again, and the center was fussy-cut and popped up to add some depth.

It's really subtle in the photo, but the Gold Metallic Thread adds a light, airy feel. It's so pretty in real life!

Mom is coming this weekend for a two week visit. I kind of want to hide the Oh So Succulent suite from her, so it won't spoil the surprise come Mother's Day!

Twice as Big on Birthdays!

The Big on Birthdays stamp set makes it so easy to whip up a quickie birthday card. I don't know why I didn't jump on the "big greeting" bandwagon until very recently, but I am all over them now!

Today's post shows two very different looks, using the same stamp and card sketch, but different colors and papers. The card above would make a great masculine birthday card. The Hardwood stamp was used for the background (stamped in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake cardstock), along with a bit of linen-look DSP from the Serene Scenery DSP Stack. The greeting was heat embossed with copper embossing powder, and a bit of Cucumber Crush Striped Ribbon added a touch of color along with the Mint Macaron faux die-cut bow.

The card in the tutorial goes for a more modern feminine look with black, gold, and Melon Mambo.

Here's the How To:
 Greeting: Whisper White 2-5/8" x 2-7/8"
 Mat: Basic Black 2-3/4" x 3"
 Bow: Gold Foil 2" x 2"
DSP background: Pop of Pink Specialty DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
 Coordinating DSP Strip: 1-3/4" x 4"
Ribbon: Melon Mambo 1/8" Stitched Ribbon 5-1/2"
 Card base: Basic Black 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"

  1. Adhere DSP Strip to DSP background 1" from bottom. Handy Hint: The Grid Paper is a very useful tool for this!

  2. Wrap ribbon around DSP strip 3/8" from bottom of strip, and adhere ends to back. Then adhere all to card base.

  3. Die cut gold foil using bow in Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits.

  4. Stamp greeting in black on white cardstock and adhere to black mat. Adhere die-cut bow behind.

  5. Add dimensionals to back and adhere to card base.

Sealed With Love Meets Window Box

Here is another cute way to use the Window Box Thinlits Dies. Did you notice that this die is an exact duplicate of one of the stamp designs in the Sealed With Love stamp set and the coordinating DSP stack? It's almost like they planned it!

I wanted to keep this design simple and easily duplicated, so I just die cut a strip of Real Red (1-1/2" x 5-1/4") and adhered it to the Whisper White card base. The matching design was randomly stamped in Real Red (inking the stamp and then stamping off once each time to lighten the color).

After die-cutting the large heart using the second largest curvy heart in the Sweet & Sassy Framelits, the greeting was stamped in Basic Black. It was then popped up on dimensionals, and the red glimmer heart was adhered. Unfortunately, that little heart punch is retired. Too bad, because it's the perfect size for projects like this.

And after I got this all finished, and the photo edited, I realized I could have used another thing from that suite; the adorable tiny red grosgrain ribbon for a little bow where the glimmer heart is. Next time.
