CCM Saturday Blog Hop - Non-traditional Valentine

Today's Create With Connie & Mary Saturday Blog Hop theme is Non-traditional Valentine. This was fun for me because I like using non-traditional colors for various holidays, and Valentine's Day is no different!

I chose the masculine colors of Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, and Crumb Cake for this Valentine. I liked the slanted lines of the Balmy Blue Country Floral Lane DSP, and thought an embossed strip of Crumb Cake slanted at the same angle would look kind of cool.

What? You don't recognize that embossed texture? It's from the new Basics 3D embossing folder set that will be part of the Online Exclusives starting next month. There are THREE 3D folders in the set!

That's all for today - see you next Saturday! Up next is Libby Fens at Libby Stamps. Or click the "back" button to go back to Lori at Loritamarie Crafts.

Sealed With Love

I kind of like using non-traditional colors for holidays, so instead of red and white for this Valentine, I thought the soft pinky-plum of Sweet Sugarplum would be a nice change.

Although the Love Notes Thinlits are on back order the coordinating stamp set, Sealed With Love, is available, and the Sweet & Sassy (heart shapes) Framelits are great for any size hearts you may need! The Sweet Sugarplum Glimmer Paper made the cutest little heart, set off by the Sweet Sugarplum gingham check in the Succulent Garden DSP.

Ooooo, I have to tell you - that glimmer paper assortment in the newly released Sale-A-Bration brochure is to die for! It will be available starting Feb. 21st, and I have a feeling it is going to be very popular, so don't wait until the end of SAB if you want it.

I have to take Mom back home tomorrow, so I probably won't have another post until Sunday. Unless I can squeeze in a quick card later today and schedule it for tomorrow. I have something in mind......we'll see if I can git r done!

Sealed With Love Meets Window Box

Here is another cute way to use the Window Box Thinlits Dies. Did you notice that this die is an exact duplicate of one of the stamp designs in the Sealed With Love stamp set and the coordinating DSP stack? It's almost like they planned it!

I wanted to keep this design simple and easily duplicated, so I just die cut a strip of Real Red (1-1/2" x 5-1/4") and adhered it to the Whisper White card base. The matching design was randomly stamped in Real Red (inking the stamp and then stamping off once each time to lighten the color).

After die-cutting the large heart using the second largest curvy heart in the Sweet & Sassy Framelits, the greeting was stamped in Basic Black. It was then popped up on dimensionals, and the red glimmer heart was adhered. Unfortunately, that little heart punch is retired. Too bad, because it's the perfect size for projects like this.

And after I got this all finished, and the photo edited, I realized I could have used another thing from that suite; the adorable tiny red grosgrain ribbon for a little bow where the glimmer heart is. Next time.

Did you know that during Sale-A-Bration, if you order a 3-month prepaid subscription, that you will save $4 off the regular price AND you'll qualify for a FREE Sale-A-Bration item? It's true! Right now the three-month subscription is $55 (reg. $59), so that means one freebie for you from the items shown below! The shipping is even included in the Paper Pumpkin subscription price, so you'll only pay shipping on the Sale-A-Bration goodie. It's a sweet deal on a sweet product! Here is the video from Stampin' Up! on this month's kit:

One of the best things about P.P. is the community of other (brilliant, talented, and awesomely creative) subscribers, who share alternatives for each month's kit. There's a Facebook group called Paper Pumpkin Fan Club, and lots of alternatives on Pinterest, as well. Seriously, some people just knock my socks off with their creativity! Occasionally a couple of my brains cells bump into each other and spark an idea, but that's a rare occasion. Thank goodness for Pinterest!

Loving the Freaks!

Now that things have settled down in our new home, and the craft room is up and running at full speed, I can get freaky with my fellow Control Freak Stampers once again. It sure feels great to be back! This month the theme is "Love is in the Air", which means anthing love-related, but not necessarily a Valentine. Did you see what Connie Babbert did? Uh-MAZE-ing!

I have three little cards for you today; two Valentine-y ones, and one just letting him know I love him. (I'd planned a treat holder, too, but ran out of time. Oh well....still working the kinks out of my crafting muscle.) For my first card, I tried to keep it simple yet elegant. It's a little non-traditional with the Crumb Cake color added, but I think it works, don't you?

STAMPS: First Sight, Bloomin' Love   CARDSTOCK: Whisper White, Crumb Cake   INK: Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler   ACCESSORIES: Big Shot, Happy Heart TIEF, Sweetheart Punch

Next up is another card with non-traditional colors, but I think it's also kind of elegant. This uses the fabulous Bloomin' Heart Thinlits Die, and if you simply MUST get it, I highly recommend getting the Big Shot Die Brush to go with it. It made getting rid of all those tiny fussy bits in the die-cut a piece o' cake, and saved me tearing my hear out, I can tell you! Here's a little hint, though - don't use it if you're cutting any of our foil papers. Ask me how I know (and don't look too closely at this card, lol). Hello Honey was the color of the cardstock flowers, and I thought it was just so.... appropriate!

STAMPS: Bloomin' Love   CARDSTOCK: Basic Black, Hello Honey, Gold Foil, Gold Fancy Foil Vellum   INK: VersaMark   ACCESSORIES: Big Shot, Elegant Dots TIEF, Bloomin' Heart Thinlits Dies, Big Shot Die Brush, Heat Tool, Black Stampin' Emboss Powder, Embossing Buddy, Pearl Basic Jewels

And last, but not least, another simple card that I'm going to give to my honey "just because."  It probably doesn't show, but there's some Clear Wink of Stella on the propellar so it looks like a shiny propellar spinning. (Before we retired, we used to live near a small airport, and the planes that towed banners over the beach and sporting events would fly over our house. And no, I don't miss that AT ALL!) He will get a Valentine, too, but sometimes you just have to let them know you luv 'em, even when it isn't a holiday, or anniversary, or birthday, or....

STAMPS: Sky is the Limit (SAB freebie)   CARDSTOCK: Basic Black, Whisper White, Pool Party, Vellum, Watercolor Paper   INK: Basic Black Archival, Smoky Slate, Real Red, Pool Party   ACCESSORIES: Aqua Painter, Whisper White Baker's Twine, Clear Wink of Stella, Tree Builder Punch

That's all for me today. Just click the links at the end of each blog to continue on the hop. Up next is Mindy Backes, and I'm sure she has something absolutely LOVEly to share! (See what I did there? Heh heh.)
