Pumpkin Says Hello, Fall!

I have to admit, when I saw the cat punch in the holiday catalog, I squealed. Under my breath, of course, because I didn't want to startle the animals (or the husband). And then I thought, "Do I really neeeed a cat punch? How much would I actually use it?"

And then any thought of restraint flew right out the window when I saw that the cats in the Spooky Night DSP fit the punch, so naturally I had to have both of them. And the matching stamp set, of course.

I added some white and black whiskers to the kitty, because that's what Pumpkin has, and used a Peekaboo Peach marker to add the orange tabby stripes, too. It looks JUST LIKE HIM, don't you think? *LOL*

Here's a close up of his whiskers. See, black & white ones! Sorry for the blurry photo - I had to take it over my shoulder while he was sitting behind me on the office chair. I love my little craft buddy, even if he does sometimes plop his hairy butt down right where I'm trying to work. Or thinks that cardstock die cuts are yummy kitty treats. Or jumps up on the desk when I have open ink pads laying around, causing me to frantically snatch them out of the way, and giving me a heart attack at the same time. Come to think of it, maybe I shouldn't be loving that little stinker so much!

Colorful Seasons Sneak Peek & Reflections on Creativity

All the time I hear people say they aren't creative, and could never do what I do. And to them I say, "Horse pucky!" Well, that's not exactly what I say, but I'm tryin' to keep it family friendly here, folks! They don't realize they are being creative from the moment they wake up and choose what to put on, to what they fix for supper. It's all being creative! And then they say, "But I'm talking about artistic creation; that's different!"

I wish I could make everyone see how Stampin' Up! makes it so easy to create beautiful, artistic things! Their products are color-coordinated, so if you pick one suite, you know everything will go together. And seriously, how difficult is it to tap a stamp on an ink pad, press it on cardstock, maybe add a layer or two, and some coordinating embellishments?! It really isn't that hard, and sites like Pinterest, Splitcoast Stampers, and even the Stampin' Up! blog are excellent places for ideas to get you inspired.

Not only that, but the new 2017 Annual Catalog is coming loaded with fresh, fun ideas, so you don't even have to get on the Internet if you don't like doing that. (If that's the case, then how are you reading this? Just curious.)

Smiley from Millan.Net

I crack myself up, sometimes! Bear with me, we're getting to the good part.....

Here's the "How To"
 Chairs: Shimmery White 3-1/2" x 4-1/2"
Oval window top: Whisper White 4" x 5-1/4"
Card base: Sahara Sand 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored and folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Using the largest oval in Layering Ovals Framelits, cut the center window out of the Whisper White cardstock. Use the leftover oval piece to die cut the flowers from Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies.
  2. Using Soft Suede ink, stamp the stamens on the flowers, and the greeting (from Eastern Beauty) near the window opening.
  3. Stamp the right chair using Soft Suede for the frame and Bermuda Bay for the fabric. Make a mask (stamp chair on a sticky note and cut out) to mask the chair and stamp the left chair frame and fabric. Sponge the Pool Party sky and Old Olive ground.
  4. Adhere the chair image to the card base with Fast Fuse or liquid glue. Use Stampin' Dimensionals to attach the oval window piece to the card base, so it's popped up..
  5. Cut dimensionals into small pieces to attach flowers.
  6. Sometimes a CAS card is not really that simple to make!
Note: Eastern Beauty stamp set (143675) not listed in Product List.

Just Breathe (Sneak Peek!)

As I was designing this card for my stamp club, the refrain from Anna Nalick's song "Breathe" kept running through my head:

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button girl,
So cradle your head in your hands....
And breathe, just breathe,
Whoa breathe, just breathe.

I can think of several friends and family members that this card could go to right now. Sometimes you just have to stop, take a deep breath, and try to find center again, you know? Been there, done that. Thankfully, I'm in a really good place now, both mentally and physically! And I think my location physically has a huge influence on the mental part.

You may have noticed my blog header has changed. That's my little mini farm in the picture, as seen from across the river. You can just see the red roof of our house peeking from behind the trees. This is my peace, my soul soother, far away from the hustle and bustle (and traffic and sirens) of the city. Ahhhhh....

So, enough rambling about how blessed I'm feeling today, let's get to the card details! I demonstrated the Watercolor Smoosh technique, which is an easy way to add an interesting background to your cards. For this one, I used acrylic Clear Block D, but you can use whatever size suits your design, or even a window sheet!

There are a couple of ways to add ink, either by coloring on the block with a Stampin' Write Marker (great way to add different colors for a mottled look!), or just inking it with a Classic Ink Pad, as I did here. Either way, once the ink is on the block, spritz it a couple of times with plain water, then "smoosh" it on your cardstock.

I used Shimmery White Cardstock, but Watercolor Paper works well, too. When you remove the block, if you don't like the streaky effect, you can quickly run a dry paint brush over it to smooth it out. But you gotta act fast! I really like that no two smooshes look the same. Variety is the spice, and all that. *grin*

Here's the "How To"
 Chair: Soft Suede 2-1/8" x 2-3/4"
 Background: Shimmery White 3-3/4" x 5"
 Mat: Bermuda Bay 3-7/8" x 5-1/8"
 Card base: Crumb Cake 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" scored & folded at 4-1/4"
  1. Using the smoosh technique described above, tap clear D Block on Pool Party ink pad. Spritz with Stampin' Spritzer and smoosh on Shimmery White, leaving an even border on each side and at top. Note: It needs to be high enough to leave room for the grass and greeting underneath.
  2. Using the High Tide stamp set, stamp the water in Bermuda Bay ink, the grasses in Crumb Cake, and the birds in Basic Black, as shown.
  3. Stamp the greeting from Colorful Seasons (available June 1st) in Basic Black.
  4. Adhere background to Bermuda Bay mat and then attach to card using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  5. Die cut Soft Suede with chair die in Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies (available June 1st) and adhere to card with Liquid Multipurpose Glue.
