Carousel Birthday, Ferris Wheel

The other day, when I made the gold embossed carousel horse card, I also embossed the Ferris wheel in the Carousel Birthday stamp set, thinking I could incorporate it somehow. That didn't pan out, so I saved it to use later. And later is TODAY!

I loosely used the Freshly Made Sketches sketch for this week. The size is all wrong, as is the embellishment on the left side, but at least it gave me a starting point!

This is the first time I've played with the 3/8" Metallic Ribbon that's a Sale-A-Bration freebie. I really like it, not only because it's shiny, but it has a soft feel to it and makes lovely bows. But today I played around with it to see if it was easy to ruche, and it WAS! It's super easy to grab a couple threads on one side, pull them up, and scrunch the ribbon into a scalloped shape. I was surprised to see the threads ran in a wave pattern, rather than straight along the side. That's what made the awesome scallops! To keep the threads from pulling out after I got it just the way I wanted it, I used the Fine-Tip Glue Pen across both ends and let it dry before cutting it off the roll. Worked like a charm!

Carousel Birthday Challenges!

It was my turn to pick the challenges this weekend, and I have to admit, choosing three was a bit much for both me and my BFF. I picked the Paper Craft Crew sketch, Shopping Our Stash #288 "Days of Yore" (vintage/ shabby chic/ distressed), and the CAS Mix Up (stamping + corrugated + your choice from their "choices" sidebar). It was the SOS challenge I had the most trouble with, as did Barb.

I think part of the problem is I'm suffering from a knee injury which has kind of knocked the creativity out of me. I just want to sleep, but I can't find a comfortable position. (Same with sitting and standing.)

So anyway, this was all I could muster today. The corrugated cardstock is retired now. I liked that stuff so much that I stocked up when it was on clearance, and probably have enough to last me a lifetime, lol!

Carousel Birthday

I have a quick post for you today. Yesterday Mom came for a two week visit, so I'm spending time with her instead of in my craft room.

When I was a little girl, I was crazy obsessed with horses. I wanted SO BADLY to have my own horse, and if I couldn't have one, then at least have riding lessons. Neither of those things happened, so riding a carousel horse was the best that I could do. I didn't care for any of the other animals on the carousel....only the horses. So you can understand why I was excited when I saw this stamp set!

The horse was stamped on Whisper White, colored with blender pens & ink pads, then cut with the 2-1/8" circle framelit. The Lace Doily was sponged with So Saffron to match the horse's mane & tail.

P.S. I did finally get to ride, when I volunteered at a riding stable in my teens; my labor in exchange for rides. I worked my tail off, and it was SO worth it! I finally bought my own horse (a yearling filly that I trained) when I was an adult.
