CCM Saturday Blog Hop - In the Sky

Today's Create With Connie & Mary Saturday Blog Hop theme is anything that is normally found in the sky. I had all kinds of ideas - clouds, rain, snowflakes, the sun, rainbows, but ultimately settled on birds. We have so many varieties of birds here in East Tennessee, and I love looking out my craft room window at them. In fact, they can be quite distracting when I'm trying to get things done!

I pulled out an old favorite for this card; Free as a Bird. When it came out there was some lovely DSP that coordinated with it but, sadly, it's retired and I can't use it. (Not that I don't have three and a half packs, I just can't use it here, lol.)

I love the strips of yellow DSP over the Smoky Slate DSP, picking up the birds' colors. It's a good way to use up those little DSP pieces you can't bear to throw away!

That's my share for today. Click the Next button to jump over to Libby Fens at Libby Stamps, or the Back button to see what Mary Brown at Stamper Camper's Corner has made!

Free as a Bird Happy Mail

Heart's Delight Cards, Bird Ballad, Free As A Bird, Happy Mail, Thinking of You, Stampin' Up!

I find it ironic that my current favorite stamp set is called Free as a Bird, since we most definitely aren't at this particular time. Counted among my many blessings is the love of card making, and my rather large hoard collection of stamping-related supplies. I can shelter in place for as long as it takes to get past these trying times, with enough product to keep me busy for a loooong time. Now, if my garden would just start producing, I wouldn't even have to go grocery shopping.

Heart's Delight Cards, Bird Ballad, Free As A Bird, Happy Mail, Thinking of You, Stampin' Up!

Since I'm spending so much time taking my mind off of world affairs, I've been making and sending many more cards than usual. Happy mail is just the ticket for brightening someone's spirits. "Use up the pre-made card and envelope sets" is on my to-do list, and the Bird Ballad Laser Cut cards were at the top of that list. They are positively lovely, and paired with fussy cut images from the Bird Ballad DSP, make a beautiful card.

The greeting is from Good Morning Magnolia and I also used a sentiment from it on the inside that seemed so appropriate: The journey of life is best shared with a friend. We'll get through this together.

Heart's Delight Cards, Bird Ballad, Free As A Bird, Happy Mail, Thinking of You, Stampin' Up!

I want to encourage you to make the time to do something creative every day, if possible. It will take your mind off things that are beyond our control (other than self-isolating) and, if you make a card, SEND that card! It will brighten someone's day. Try not to dwell on the bad news. There is so much good happening, too, so focus on that. AND DON'T FORGET TO SEND THAT CARD! Someone needs to hear from you.

Stamp Review Crew - Free As A Bird

https://stampreviewcrew.blogspot.com/2019/07/FAB.html

Welcome to the first Monday of the month... and another Stamp Review Crew hop! (How can it already be JULY?!) The "Crew" is made up of a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world who pick a stamp set or bundle to highlight on the first and third Mondays of each month, with a bonus hop if there is a fifth Monday. Today we are featuring Free As A Bird, which was right at the top of my "must have" list! If you just came from Dawn Tidd's blog, Tiddbits From Dawn, you can continue on by clicking the "Next" button below. If you want to go back and admire Dawn's projects again, just click "Previous"!

Heart's Delight Cards, Free As A Bird, Bird Ballad, Stitched Nested Labels Dies, Stampin' Up!, 2019-2020 Annual Catalog,

Free As a Bird is part of the Bird Ballad Suite found on page 91 of the 2019 Stampin' Up! annual catalog. It's a 12 piece red rubber cling stamp set, and can be bundled with the Stitched Nested Labels Dies for a 10% discount. The whole suite is simply lovely, from the trinket embellishments to the lace trim, to the absolutely beautiful Bird Ballad DSP, which is what I used on both cards!

This first card was made for a local stamping buddy of mine and her husband. I stamped the word "happy" from A Wish for Everything in Versamark ink on a Crumb Cake card base, then added a strip of Pretty Peacock DSP (Woven Threads).

The frame was made using the Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folders. After cutting the frame, I held it over various parts of the DSP to find the "picture" I wanted. So many sweet bird images, so hard to choose!

After gluing it to the back of the frame, it was adhered to the card with dimensionals. The greeting (also from A Wish for Everything) was stamped and then cut with Classic Label Punch. A bit of linen thread, colored with Pretty Peacock Light Stampin' Blend, for a bow and a few pearls completed the card.

The next card was also made for a local stamping buddy! I was so blessed to find new friends after we moved to Tennessee, who have the same addiction passion for all things stampy - we enable each other a lot, LOL!

A piece of Bird Ballad DSP was adhered to a Soft Suede mat, and then to a Whisper White mat before attaching it to the Petal Pink card base.

The bird was stamped in Memento ink and colored with Stampin' Blends, then cut with one of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies. A scrap of Soft Suede was cut with a smaller die and adhered to the back. After trimming off the left side of the image panel, some Mossy Meadow Linen Thread (Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack) was wrapped around, a double bow was added, and it was adhered to the card.
